*Route Update Pending*
Ok, the update is in the hopper and I am considering pulling the trigger tomorrow morning. This is an interesting update to say the least. First, the Moodna Viaduct is spectacular in real life. Surrounded by 5 miles of hiking trails, people come to Salisbury Mills, New York to gaze upon this mighty, iron edifice and engineering marvel. Suffice to say, the scenery has to be good, expansive and do the place justice. I have quite a bit more detail work, particularly houses to do to round out this scene. In the coming weeks, this will be filled out and we will move on. Yes, we will swing to the West around Beaver Dam Lake to our next destination - Campbell Hall, New York.
I spent a session adding another 5 miles of track West of the Salisbury Mills - Cornwall Station. I never lay all the track. Only just enough is put down, so I can fill out the scenery in chunks. And so I don't drive up and down the unfinished area, wasting time imagining what it will look like, instead of building the dream. So, with another 6 miles of track and 10 miles of scenery, I will either call it quits or ....
I don't know who is more nuts; those who want me to go to Port Jervis or me, for even considering it. I checked out Middletown, NY for the first time. Oh my lord is that built up. Its somewhat flat and wide, which means deep, dense scenery ( like Fairlawn). I checked a mile on each side on the track and I barely made a dent into the town. This is the first time in building the route that I thought - This is just to much to do. It just might be. I have now been working on this ... well 12 days ago I completed my third full year on the route. 3 years!
And finally, I couldn't be happier with the way this has turned out. As, always, I salute each and every one of you that has joined my son and I on this journey. A voyage through time and space to a place that once one was, were men worked and earned a living, a place of families and children, of purpose and meaning. And to the memory of my friend Jerry... I miss that guy, the greatest Erie man that ever lived. He would love this route if didn't end up building it himself first. He lived just a mile or two, as the crow flies, from CP Sparrow a long time ago.
So, tomorrow or shortly thereafter you can drive either the 51.4 miles from Croxton or the 55.5 miles from Hoboken to get to this place. And yeah, its got scenery on it the whole darn way!
