Here is this week's written update. There was no route update on Friday the 17th.
I see Trainsim World was released as my Steam friend activity is now saturated with high fidelity CSX imagery. I want to throw the old wet blanket on TSW as I can see DTG is still doing scenery the same way as before. It looks sparse to me, which is a shame, as scenery can be so much more. I am eager to see it first hand, but I do have some obstacles. The first is the that my 6 year old build machines is out of spec and out of space for TSW. The second is that I am to darn involved with the Bergen to take the time and do runs on it even if I did have it. The route was supposed to have been done by now, now I have to fight for attention against TSW, which is tough.
Meanwhile back on the Bergen, we have managed to get 2.5 miles West of the Woodbury Trestle with in-process as well as semi finished scenery. This is a total cram to get to the Moodna, scenery quality is a bit diminished as I am skipping some detail work. For this 5 mile stretch is just about nothing but trees for 1000 foot each side of the train. We will make up for the lack of 'interesting' scenery by getting our up-close nicely done and by the use of distant scenery.

As you can see, the whole area is saturated with trees and there are few open spaces other than the NYS Thruways, some homes and the occasional hay field. This is the way the route would look all the way to Port Jervis. The trick is how to make this interesting and appealing. From my personal experience - between Harriman and Port Jervis - its a wall of trees for 40 miles. I think this part of the route will shine in Spring and Winter where the distance scenery is more visible.

We have overcome a bit of technical issue with the trees and getting them to render at distances greater 1km. Depending on how I manipulate the ‘Asset Block Irregular" I am seeing trees 1.5 miles away from the train. (This image above shows 1.15 miles distant) The additional trees cost about 5-10 fps in the valley, however, the over all FPS is the same as in Highland Mills and still better than the 17fps I get in Hoboken and Croxton. For my rig and with a train WITH the interior lights turned off, I am looking at 20-22fps.
I plan on sending out this update early Thursday morning on March 23rd. If anyone has any hot fix requests, please send them to my attention.
Have a great week and don't work too hard.
