Thank you Harry for taking this on. This will be key rolling stock for me to recreate some 1970s traffic for the Bergen!

I simply couldn't take it any more. I put 10 hours in to finish this piece of Erie history that was crying to be done.
MMSS1 of Garfield NJ, this one is for you pal! Royce and Fromer in all their former glory. I checked back in our records and the first time we talked about doing Carlton Hill was Tue Sep 13, 2016 11:05 am, over 2 years ago!

The Minermen are proud to present:
Route Update Number 217
New York Division-Bergen Line 9.9.5.3: Carlton Hill

Additions: Carlton Hill was a station on the Erie RR. in East Rutherford, NJ and was operational to 1963, when the Erie main through Passaic was removed. The drawbridge over the Passiac was swung open and Carlton Hill became a branch line through the 1980's. 4 new consignees: C.H. Frommer, Royce Chemical, Bell Corrugated and Delasco Foods. Add Wallington and Rutherford, NJ. Scenery update from Garfield to East Rushford.

Quick Drive: Use the Carlton Hill - Rutherford Drill QD

Old file size: 176.621 MB
New file size: 180.343 MB

The QD looks best at about 10am Summer. The branch is lit and some little details for you to find, and all the custom kitbashing you all have come to know and love.

Enjoy.

*Note: I also updated the Quick Drive Page on my workshop site. This lists each QD a provides a description and any special instructions.

One last thing: THIS IS HUGE!

Route Update 218: *HOT FIX* Locate Restore for track.bin that was corrupted by 64bit on February 16th. Restore and test. Add telephone poles and lighting on Patterson Rd/Hoboken Road and some more trees.

Well, that was fun. Another cross off on my bucket list. So, where do we go next?
Lets go to the Polls!
Bergen_Poll.JPG

Well I can see what the winner is if we combine two of the answers: Otisville and "I know I am a pain". Yes, you are a pain. The end of the line, the holy grail and the end of the New York Division - Port Jervis, New York. You guys are killen me.

Tell you what I am going to do. Were going to hit Middletown, NY next. I spy 4 consignees on the way to the Metro-North Station in Middletown. That looks promising. You may not know it, but this is potentially another Campbell Hall situation. I have the M&NJ going right through the town itself was a nice little set of consignees to grab. If I get distracted, and you know I do, I will end up building half or more of that city before even thinking about the Otisville Tunnel to grab customers. The only rebuild work I want to do, is in Mahwah and the Ford Plant. Its the oldest part of the route. Its crude, the elevation is off and I really want to get it done right. Somewhere in this grand scheme of mine this will get done.

As for me - well, the route is done. Everything West of Suffern is bonus and all the branch line work I did was unexpected. I think the Bergen as it stands, is a very full and robust route. Other than punching to the end - we can live without what was not done. In five weeks, it will be the end of the 5th full year of working on this project. Surprisingly, I still have juice left and I am confident that my limited asset palate will carry me to Otisville for sure. For the curious, I did all the topo work to Port Jervis already and hacked together a reasonable facsimile of its passenger station.

This is why I work in sections, instead of laying out 100 miles of track and THEN putting the scenery on it. I can stop at the end of any section and call it done. Last, all the pressure to finish is gone. I feel no urgency, no regrets and I am just enjoying the build as I make my way to the door.

Carry on.

That's great to see Minerman; you guys have brought so much joy to our community with the Bergen, it's nice to see the authors having a great time with the final stages of the build. Cheers! ..and thanks again for all the dedicated work !!*ok*!!

Minerman, if you will allow, I think I can do a better job of reskinning EL rollingstock if I use a number of Michael Stephan's freeware assets from the Golden Age of Railroading website (http://golden-age-rails.com/index.html). For one thing, the SH equipment is a little too modern. Another advantage is that I can use all freeware except the bay window caboose. Let me know what you think.

I have been mulling over a response all day. Then at 2pm I started one and deleted this text during a phone call. I am torn between ranting or simply answering your question. The rant subject is DLC, Workshop and DTG.

Harry,

I actually reached out to Michael Stephans just over 2 years ago and offered to promote his product on the Bergen. At the time he said he was considering some 60's and 70's rolling stock. You reminded me of that in your post.

You correct, the SH gear is a wee bit newer by 10 and 20 years. I was willing to compromise fidelity to the equipment for just different roads that I could use for classification. That is an element of the route I want to explore in scenarios. The order of cars is critical so that they can be set out correctly. The other thing was to ensure that everyone had the same base gear, so SH and the US Asset Pack was what I planned to use. (Gosh this game has very limited box car variety). And the last thing I liked was a turnkey approach, you push a button, all your gear installs and then you run the scenario.

Leaving a long part of the conversation out about me trying to get dlc in EL for TS (exercise in futility) I think I can now answer your question.
I think if you can make it a "pack" somehow that would ease my mind, that I could point people to the pack to download the stock. I want it to be easy for them.
Funny how I am not even talking about rolling stock yet. Just how its present and how I will use it for the route.

So, I would love to see the rolling stock as actual paint jobs, not the photograph kind if that is possible. I would be happy to research, I think that is part of the fun. If you can make the whole thing, under your name from one place, that would be nice! If the best options are from Mr. Stephan's site then do use them. He is a very kind person ( and I think he likes the Erie too! ) http://golden-age-rails.com/packsrw/vnh_el.html.

If you have any questions, please post here and we can have your effort be part of this long story!

These models are Erie Lackawanna reskins of the Kuju Covered Hoppers. I created them for the New York Division-Bergen Line - Part Deux! Route. Run the RW_AssetSetup.exe file to install the models.

"EL 2-BAY Covered Hopper" installs into Assets\Kuju\RailsimulatorUS\RailVehicles\Freight\2bay_Covered_Hopper\EL\. "EL Cement Hopper 3chutes" installs into Assets\Kuju\RailsimulatorUS\RailVehicles\Freight\CementHopper3chutes\EL. EL Hopper 3-Bay installs into Assets\Kuju\RailsimulatorUS\RailVehicles\Freight\Covered_Hopper\EL. "EL Hopper 2-Bay Cement" installs into Assets\Kuju\ RailsimulatorUS\RailVehicles\Freight\CementHopper\EL.

This package is released as freeware. You can do whatever you wish with it EXCEPT make money with its use.

pwelt - Thank you sir. In QDs you can switch all and any MANUAL switches. I use the 9 key and go to the 2D map, to make sure I am lined before I start off. Then I like to check the 2D map again as I get to my destination. Here is a screen shot of the 2D map at Middletown, NY, the subject of this Wednesday's Route Report!

Holy Smokes, its that time again. The one, the only: Wednesday Route Update Report.

But first, lets check the Friday update status.
[ X ] Not.Even.Close.To.Ready
[ ] Rock-n-Roll!

Wow, I can't believe I am in Middletown! I never thought I would get here. Glancing at my trusty Conrail Track Map, I see I am beyond MP73 with track. This here route is starting to get long. Well we are on the Graham Line, built in 1909 to bypass 7 towns, to improve speed of freight. While the old Erie was gone in about 1987 from Harriman to Middletown, the Graham lives on. We will be picking up station number 25 in Middletown, NY. Its a simple platform of the same type at Harriman and Campbell Hall, just a bit longer. The picture for tonight does not show much. But there at ton of roads and highways. So there will be extensive highway work as this is the interchange for Interstate Route 84 and NY Route 17. There is a big fat Mall, and tons of commercial structures to put in, but not dense like the Bronx or Jersey. Also of note Middletown, NY was the Corporate HQ for a famous NY railroad. I also see that if decide to go in into the city, we will be on the right of way for that former old and weary concern. *!!wink!!*
20190227195814_1.jpg

I am just starting to run the siding for our businesses we have four and the are.
1. 84 Lumber
2. Wakefern Distribution Center ( For the Shop-Rite grocery store chain here in the North East)
3. Ball Metal Beverage Container Corp ( this company also makes the famous Ball Jars for home canning to preserver fruits and vegetables)
4. Revere Smelting and Refining.

Out of the 4, only Revere is still rail served. Wakefern came in during the Conrail Era. This is good to get some more traffic in and out of Campbell Hall, so I like it. I don't know yet, how much depth of scenery you are going to get. At the station, it is in a cut and the rest is basically a wall of trees on each side of the track. Super EL is installed, but as the curves are broad, you get just a little tilt. Last, its definitely 70 miles to Hoboken and its 19 miles to Port Jervis.
Wow, just wow.

That's it for now. I hope you all had the chance to hit Carlton Hill or at least some of the changes in Rutherford. And I hope that you, like myself eagerly await each piece of Erie Lackawanna rolling stock that is coming out way from Harry Adkins.

Carry On!
