I gotta say - I always enjoy the 1950's Northeast Rail - Love-Ins we get from time to time. I always think of my Grandfather. Keep on with the polls guys, I am getting a good survey out of it and a surprise or two as well !

This is sort of a mini-update.

Walden was much further along than I realized. For those that peek at the unfinished areas, I added forests and terrain painted around the entire town. Now, I am working block by block detailing on the East Side of town. I also did a test run to actually switch cars in on out of the branch. That passing siding holds 7 cars, a caboose and 1 loco, so if you want to get your pre-EOT device era on, you can and run hood forward back to CH. To me both branches out of CH is just such gorgeous scenery. It so looks like the area and its pretty in real life too. I think I captured it - so, I am happy.

Working down in Saddle River on the Susquehanna was a real eye opener. I stopped there on the way East originally, as I had to add it in as its so visible. If you go just 5 miles East or West of the yard, you get Patterson and you get Ridgefield Park. It has interesting customers, bridges and rivers and it goes through the bad side of town everywhere! Doing the Susquehanna in Bergen County is a worthy project, maybe even a DTG project. And because the SuzyQ wraps her arms round the Erie like a new girlfriend, I got a thing for it. Some of the same territory is covered, but from a different point of view. Its present day existence also says a lot about survival of the NYSW, even though NS/CSX now controls the lines ownership. It truly is the last of the last of the old North Eastern railroads. I think someone could realistically get to Warwick NY, Sparta, NJ would be more reasonable. Cool little Class II railroad!

Update thread later...
Progress! Walden is now getting detailed and were loading up on the trees. Could be a few more days to release but no more than a week.
Shots below give you some street scenes as well as our hot air balloon view to you can see the size of this village. We used to hate the unevenness of the terrain, but now its embraced. Just look at all the elevation changes!

The every interesting Wednesday Route Update Post.
Route Update Status for Friday:
[ ] update? what update?
[x] thinking about it.

I noted I was making good progress and doing detailing. What can I say? Three is a bunch of detail, I forgot a bunch of sheds that people typically have in their back yards for one thing. The other is, that as this is a town, I have to place all the trees in one at a time. This mornings shot was after 1.45 hours of putting down trees! I still have some utility poles to put down, street lights and to lift the ground up on some of the homes that are placed on a incline. I am very interested in releasing at some point on Friday. Morning is out - I have a dentist appointment! Also, in this next update, we have a boatload of custom stuff in Walden, I bashed the heck out of some buildings and now I have a pool of different house configurations to draw from. Check them out and let me know what you think.

This update really is a big deal. It marks the milestone where I have effectively reproduced a working model of NS current freight operations on the Graham Line. Plus, all the consignees justify the yard and now freight transfers between Croxton and CH make sense as you can trace the cars to their destination. This is/was my end of this route. I can stop in my mind. So, I did what I set out to do and then did ALOT more than I thought was going to do back in April of 2014. The next phase, will be route cleanup, updating Mahwah and finishing off Carlton Hill.

M I S S I O N: A C C O M P L I S H E D

But wait! What about the poll? *!greengrin!*
Im not outta gas yet. The past year was grueling with the job and the route, was a wonderful balm to help me clear my mind. So, I put other things in my life aside like self-improvement, reading, and pursuits of the outdoors. I need to get back to them. I have come so far, and overcome so many technical obstacles, I want to … to … do more. As you can see, I have several directions to choose from. This is where the poll comes in. You guys have some degree of influence on what goes in, from what era, and how far I go. I can get inspired to punch in a completely unexpected direction, like the Boonton or the Walden and Maybrook Branches. Don't you agree it was worth it, to see these new places? All these diverse environments gave me the experience to attempt new challenges. Remember, at one time, I expected that I would have to stop at Highland Mills because I couldn't reproduce the Moodna. Then, one night, the parts came together and we have the longest trestle East of the Mississippi modeled with such deep scenery its like being there. So, I have choices to make. I have to limit what I will dedicate to, so I can get done. I cant just say I am doing the Pascack, the Main Ling and going to Port Jervis all at once. So, if I was going to quit after 10 more miles, what should I do? Where should we go? And what do we want to do in that 10 miles? Its something worthy of thinking about before I just jump in and keep driving in some direction.

Lets make it an amazing 10 miles and see where we go from there!

Carry On!

Friday kinda snuck up on me. I am still here at the office **!!bang!!** and I need 2 hours of happy hour.
Anyway, here are few points of order:

Walden: I'm close but still detailing. Is anyone hot to get a new release with a finished Walden in it? I would like to hear from you, so I can pace myself.

Walden: Its FILLED with Kustom Krap (tm). We got PORCHES, a CARWASH and CAR VACUUMS, WALDEN POST OFFICE, TELEPHONE POLE SUPPORTS and a bunch of kitbashed buildings that actually resemble what they are supposed to represent! I even faked giant rolls of Kraft paper, weird looking, very old telegraph poles, oh and a vestibule on a building. Oh, Walden has a dog. And remember people are always watching you on the route. They might be hard to find ... but they are there. Watching. Your. Every. Move.

I am really hoping exrailwayman checks it out with Google Street view first, THEN gets on the route to check it out. Cuz, I love his responses!

Carry on!

CGBlaze: I dont know how your are doing it, but your Kodachrome is really an inspiration. ( I think I know how you voted in the polls, if not i just registered your vote) Wow what a shot. Don't tell me how you do it ...it will spoil the magic.

I see other "things' going on this picture. If this is your work, its delightfully filthy. Do share! There are also other things in this shot I also notice. Would you be interested in making delicate modifications as your doing here on a full time or part time basis? *!greengrin!* (PM me!)

I am coming back here next to finish what is to the left of your shot.

Nice, lots of nice in this picture. Thank you!

I saw your hay bales, sorry, paper rolls, I don't think there is anything else in the ''toy box'' for you to utilise from the routes you have used, Adam, to be honest. I'm sure there is a Payware route (Austrian/Swiss) that has some hay bales in white plastic sheeting, very common in Europe, that are the spitting image of paper rolls, but, you can't use them unfortunately. Apart from that, your kitbashing knows no bounds, very impressive. I couldn't find your dog, but, I only looked for about 10 minutes and then gave up, I'm sure it's there somewhere.
I also can't see the Post Office, being English, I was under the assumption that they are Federal Buildings and would have a flag outside, is that not the case with rural ones, I could have been looking in the wrong place, of course..... !*roll-laugh*!

Time to get the EL GP9 out for a little run.

You have a lot of water in this State, I've never seen so much swampy marshland, we ought to have a swimming icon on here, or, a duck....... *!!wink!!*
I did a little run around Walden, I like the single trackwork, if you exceed the 20mph limit you go rocking and swaying all over the place, very impressive..... !!*ok*!! It's a bit of a tight squeeze at Walden Headshunt, I assume you will not go any further than there, I could only just get a GP9 and one freightcar in there, after splitting the consist and trying not to foul the grade crossing, I doubt if you had anything longer, such as a E8A, you'd struggle to change the point lever, it makes for some serious switching manoeuvres anyway when you try and get all your freightcars out of the various industrial premises and lined up ready for the run down to Campbell Hall, it keeps you on your toes, that is for sure. !*salute*!

A few screenies.

Exrailwayman - I held off on the update as I was still working on it! So as of today, Saturday at 945am Eastern, its not released. I will head up to the office and push it out. There is much more scenery down than in your screen shots. The post office is a brick building with a flag, as all Federal buildings have one. its to your 11 oclock from your position - 2 blocks away. Ill have the update out in the next 30 minutes.

Ok this is IT! (and a big deal)

Route Update Number 214
New York Division-Bergen Line 9.9.5.1: Walden

Additions: Complete Residential-Commercial work and scenery in Walden, New York. Extend Terrain Import to West and South.

This completes both the Walden at Maybrook Secondary's that ordinate from Campbell Hall. The section of the route was started with the completion of Campbell Hall Yard and scenery that was extended beyond the Wallkill River in Mid-October of 2017, so it has been 14 months to complete this area, though we did make a few side excursions to other areas.

Track Distance Campbell Hall to Walden: 9.3 Miles
Track Distance Campbell Hall to Maybrook End: 7.2 Miles
Walden Branch: 6 Consignees
Maybrook Branch: 7 Consignees

Fixes :None to Report

Old file size: 169.083 MB
New file size: 173.766 MB

Obligatory Lighter than air update shot: There is ALOT of scenery here.
20181208105840_1.jpg

I will talk a bit more about this section of the route, what it means, and where we are going over the weekend. In the interim, take a ride from Cambpell Hall on the QD for full affect. Use a short train, all the switches are manual so you can go where ever you want in the QD.
Exrailwayman-I hope you get another shot in Walden. And I invite everyone to find all the stuff (and the people watching you) *!greengrin!*

I obviously jumped the gun, and can see how much scenery I was actually missing, I have the update now and it's complete. I also found the Post Office, the 9 US Postal Vans parked up outside was a massive clue........ !*roll-laugh*! !*roll-laugh*!

I assume you will go over the route when finalised and amend all the anomolies, Messrs. Minermen, there are a few of these sunken scenery items across the whole layout.

RailWorks 2018-12-08 18-26-11-79.jpg

Anyway, Walden looks a lot more compact and busy then yesterday morning, beautifully constructed and plenty to do, it finishes off this end of the map nicely.
