The Wednesday Route Update Post:
Route Update Status:
[ ] Fuggedaboudit
[ X ] Let 'er rip!

Welcome to this week's Wednesday route update. We got a hot one not because we finished Walden, but because we added a QD, fixed another and found a boo-boo. That is enough justification to release, while we continue our route building efforts. Since our last update, we went back to Walden, add the 800 structures that need to go in to make the town. Progress has been really strong. Each day has had some level of build time, so progress can actually be seen. At my pace we should be done in 2 - 4 weeks and Walden will be released. And even better, this will be the capstone for my diversion from Campbell Hall to put in the Maybrook and Walden Secondarys and the Middletown and NJ Railroad to our awesome hobby. As you know, we are drawn like bees to honey for the obscure and forgotten, the miniscule and the ordinary and all the other places that add to the rich tapestry that is the history of the Erie Railroad! :D Its what we do - we are on a mission!

Tonight, I have a few questions for you to ponder. As usual, responses are not required. But it is my hope that your consideration may inspire you to type out your thoughts. To begin, as you are aware, we run down the branch lines to see what is there. As we have discovered, as I hope, you have found it to be rewarding and interesting to diverge from the main line and get some local switching in. What I would like you to think about, is if there is value to you and the scant time you may have to run a few miles for an hour shunting on the branch lines. Does it add value to the route operationally? Are you guys running the QDs to check it out? I ask this in consideration of this grand tangent I ran down when I turned North instead of West at Campbell Hall. I know that exrailwayman and NStrains took a few trips. But I can only tell by pictures I see here and over on Steam. Most runs I see images of are end to end runs along the main, followed by the Dundee Spur. So, I am just asking. For me, driving through Montgomery NY, just blows me away every time I run it. Its … cozy. And the end of Maybrook, such a finish after driving though the woods all that time.

This is still fun for me to do, without question. I get to bring you places you would never know was there - in vivid, rich detail. I just love telling this story. I have a few more stories to tell to. And when I get done with Walden, I will share with you a very personal story about a place and why this moment in time ended up being a prime motivator to build this thing of ours.

Till next week...
Carry on!

The mainline is fun for a commuter run now and then but the branch lines and the yards are where the action is. I think the best thing about the Bergen is that I can find something to do no matter what time I can allot. Now with fewer crashes in 64 bit and pretty good frame rates everywhere, the quick drives are a lot of fun. Of course, the fact that you have made the most detailed and beautiful North American route ever certainly adds to the immersion. And although your route is on the other side of the Hudson from all my '65-'67 train rides, the scenery is very familiar looking. Also I must apologize for my lack of screenshots. I get wrapped up in the moment and don't think of them. And when I do take some screenshots they seem to disappear.

Looking forward to whatever comes next.

Your route is unlike any that is made for TS. There is so much from Hoboken to Campbell Hall! You have all the branch lines and yards which makes it feel complete. You also make it feel it can be the ultimate scenario creation platform. When I run on the routes I pay for I always find a line or things out of place. Especially routes in the Northeast because I’ve rode on all of them in real life on TS. You have created a route that conveys upstate NY in a way I didn’t think was possible or would ever be attempted.

I’m enjoying the progress!

Running Croxton to Campbell hall with 5 Searchlight Simulations Conrail SD40-2 and associated rolling stock using 4.8 GB of memory without any issues. These locomotives have great physics. Excellent route with excellent motive power. !!*ok*!!

Where might I find the updates to this route? I have the original route installed.

Step one: Make sure your subscribe to the route on Steam here:https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=265923409

Step two: The cleanest and fastest way to reload the Bergen Line is not by unsubscribing:
Do this: simply delete the contents of the Bergen Route Folder and restart Train Simulator or even better, restart you computer. When you logon to steam again, a new copy of the route will download.

This is the path to the route folder for the New York Division - Bergen Line:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Content\Routes\19b667f7-2759-49e0-93d8-4dadc470bceb

Step three: Select a quick drive, chose your favorite loco and consist, drive, take screenshots and post a few right here!

Rudi - those are 2 sweet shots. #2 is looking like this years Christmas Card. !!*ok*!!
AmericanSteam - I had meant comment on your 545am shot of that Westbound as that early morning summer time fog is waiting to lift off of the meadows. Lots of atmosphere (heh, and literally) in your picture.

Here is my contribution from today's test run...

I did a full run on the route today for the first time. Let me just say that the route is stunning and densely populated with scenery. Awesome job Minerman. !!*ok*!!

,
First run evah? Or first run where the route didn't blow up on you half way through? *!lol!*
If it was your very first run … well I envy you, it must be something to behold for the first time. That quick drive is 63 miles from end to end, and I am so happy that you guys just love the ride.

And thank you … your words and your snapshot.

It was my first proper run. I couldn't even load the route in 32-bit. Works like a champ in 64 however!

Love that last shot, Buzz. The train's reflection in the ditch looks great paired with that thick fog in the background. Stunning....
