ATSF GP20 Package (Discontinued)

Unread postby Joshuaharkness » Tue Nov 14, 2017 11:23 pm

It's been a long time since I've heard anything about the payware ATSF GP20 that was supposed to be released at some point, so I've decided to start my own repaint for this.

All in all the package will feature EMD GP20s and GP20Us in the ATSF's "Yellow Stripe" and "Yellowbonnet" schemes. I'll be skipping the autonumbering and instead doing about twenty individual units all with unique weathering (as close to their real life counterparts as possible). When I have enough time to sit down and figure out the way the horn is coded on these units, I'll be replacing it with an ATSF tuned Leslie S3L as what most of their GP20s had. When the time comes to do the GP20Us, I'll try to add the correct model additions, such as a beacon light and a horn stand, but this is only if I can work out a bug I'm currently experiencing with Blender.

A few things I'd like to bring up and ask you guys about would be some inaccuracies that are pretty much unavoidable (one can be fixed if I can get the issue with Blender resolved).
One issue is that the nose logo on the "Yellow Stripe" units will be too low, due to the location of the default decal, I can fix this eventually however, assuming I get that issue resolved. The other seems to be unavoidable, this is that the exterior of the locomotive remains in Union Pacific paint when viewed from the cab, this is a major drawback for me, and I'd like to know if you guys would still want to use this package even with this issue.

For now, this is still HIGHLY a work-in-progress and I only have the one "Yellow Stripe" unit closed to being finished.

It would look like if you change the cabview and head out camera from UP to whatever you are calling your new paint that it should then see the correct new paint job.

I can try out the Yellowbonnet, so as to match my other repaints. Also, here is a link for the proper font: http://www.railsimstuff.com/fonts1.html (BNSFDEMO)

Let me know, so I can get started as soon as possible. !!*ok*!! !*drool*! !*salute*!

Buzz, I've tried that, it appears that the textures are coded through the cabview .GeoPcDx and I don't really want to make an extremely hard installation process for the user.

ET44C4, I'd much rather make it myself, thanks. Especially seeing as I already have all of the colors set up for it and have now started on the cab. Yes, I am using the same font ATSF used on their units.

I did a repaint for that a while back and I'm pretty sure I got the outside to show up properly. I didn't modify the Geo. I'll take a look and if I have anything to offer I'll PM you with the information.

Might you be able to share that information with me as well, please? That is, as long as it will not cause any trouble for you. My version of the Freight Bonnet is almost complete, with only a few parts that need to be corrected.

You know man, not to overstep my boundaries here, but I think it's rather rude of you to steal Josh's idea like that. If Josh said he was gonna make an ATSF GP20, why do you suddenly feel the need to do the same thing as him? Perhaps you should do a different repaint. !*don-know!*

It's not that I am "stealing" his idea. That is childish... I'm simply making my version of the livery so as to match my other bunch of repaints that I am taking my time to create and share with everybody. I think everyone should have the freedom to do what they want.

**!!2cents!!**

And that will be enough from me here about the subject. Keep up the great work Joshua! !*salute*! !!*ok*!!

I'm curious, are you intending to release your version of this repaint? Because if you are, I'd have to say it's a little childish, not to mention rude, to suddenly start working on something someone else is working on and release it alongside their version, to "share with everybody", which is the same thing they're doing.

No disrespect meant.

Here's the Yellowbonnet version. I still need to paint the cabinets and add the "bonnet" to the hood and cabinets plus I'll need to remove the "Keep Off" from the underframe and add the correct numbers to this one. Once I get everything worked out of this version, I'll be making a number of copies of each, adding new road numbers, weathering the individual units and then I'll simply need to add the new horn and bell, and finally add my lighting enhancement to these. If all goes well, I should have this package uploaded by Friday evening or Saturday morning. Stay tuned for more on my progress with these!

Considering I've seen several ATSF repaints ALREADY released or WIP by ET44C4 I think he has every right to release more no matter who else puts one out.

Calm down please, this is about the repaint, not a free for all rant about who can do what.

So basically, what you're saying is that it's all right if I were to go make my own ATSF GP35 and release it, or go take Buzz's idea of the NP F9s and release my own version, but it's wrong of me to start a repaint that doesn't already exist because someone else apparently has the "rights" to it?

Okay, that makes total sense....

I think everyone's projects should be respected, and regardless of your views on the subject of respecting other people's work, I'll be releasing my own version.

Now, can we all move on?
