Beacon Line

Unread postby PennCentral670 » Tue Apr 11, 2017 8:20 am

From the creator of the Pascack Valley Line comes a new route within the New York metropolitan area, Conrail's Beacon Line.

The Beacon Line (also known as the Maybrook Line) is today Metro-North's non-revenue line connecting the railroad's three main lines east of the Hudson River with the Hudson, Harlem lines and the Danbury Branch to the New Haven Line. The line was formerly part of the New York, New Haven & Hartford's main west-east freight revenue route from Maybrook, NY. The line is set in the late 1980's/early 1990's when Conrail did its freight revenue on the line. Some services on the line include SENH (Selkirk-New Haven) and NHSE (New Haven-Selkirk) services. This went from 1976 to 1993 when Conrail decided to withdraw from its Danbury market. The Beacon Line runs from Beacon, NY to Danbury, CT and it's consisted of two sections which are the Beacon Secondary Track connecting Metro-North's Hudson Line from Beacon to the former Maybrook line east of Hopewell Junction. They today make up the current Metro-North Beacon Line in which is currently used occasionally and is preserved for future use. Conrail's Beacon Line is designed to recreate what was it like when the line was in active service with 45 miles of scenic rural areas and some steep gradients around several mountains.

Required Assets:
-NEC: New York-New Haven
-Norfolk Southern Coal District
-Sherman Hill

Notes:
-This is a work in progress and work will continue
-A mixture of the three assets is used so make sure you have all the assets to run the line
-Track & signals are from Sherman Hill
-Newburgh-Beacon Bridge and a massive amount of scenery, vegatation, roads and RR crossings are from Norfolk Southern Coal
-Large amounts of scenery, vegetation and some roads are from New York-New Haven

Also as of April 7th, 2017, the Beacon Line is a friend-only beta to Holmes, NY. Here is the link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =900279849

The link above is only accessible to people who are friends with me on Steam so if you want to get on the beta, add me as a friend. I plan on publicly releasing it hopefully by the beginning of the summer of 2017 or sooner.

Penn - its really great to see this line being done. I like "forgotten" lines and this is one of them. I hope to run some track out to Maybrook from Campbell Hall myself. Its a shame that, as of yet, we don't have a Pre-1972 route that would include the Poughkeepsie Bridge, that would finish out your line. If you ever consider it, I will definitely build out the EL side and we could interchange!

Beacon-Fishkill would be great to build out with all those old buildings - that sounds like fun to me.

Best of luck and wishes for your continued success in route building !

Some progress so far around the Upper Harlem Line and Ice Pond. Also for those beta testers, I need shots and feedback so I can see how's my route in other's perspective. So far, I've only had a small amount. The more feedback, the sooner this gets publicly released. You can PM me any time. !*salute*!

Nice work! Really like how it's turning out!

I keep missreading the title as 'The Bacon Line'. Maybe the route is the equivalent to bacon. !*drool*!

Penn,
Last week I did a survey of your route in editor. First observation, the there are 2 cool parts of the route (there are more I am pointing these 2 out). Beacon: I know Beacon, and the back of beacon where those tracks are. Conclusion: Looks like Beacon! :D Hopewell Junction: Looks like the place. I recognize most of the route. I am also glad to see you got the STRM in, which is almost mandatory in terrain like this. No pictures yet.

I have other observations that I will send to you via PM.

The route as of now is only accessible to people who are friends with me on Steam since it's a friends-only beta. So if you want to get on the beta, add me as a friend on Steam.

Two guesses here. For one, that's definitely I-84 but the question is, are we on the Beacon where they cross Rt 202 or on the Upper Harlem just north of Southeast (formerly Brewster North) station where double track drops to single track main headed north? *!greengrin!*

Like the progress!

May I have a little input? My framerates go bungee jumping when I get into the wooded areas because of all the 3D trees. I like the effort into realism, but could you cut down on them a little.

I'll do my best with the trees, although I use asset blocks a lot. I would encourage if you give me areas for improvement with the trees and therefore, I will try to use a little less as I make my way eastward.
