Sacramento Northern Interurban Repaints

Unread postby GERUNIMO625 » Sat Jan 28, 2017 1:20 am

Howdy Folks!

So, I've been looking around for suitable Interurban cars that resemble our current and only Interurban for railworks, the Holmann 1003.
Found a few and started work on them. They are not exact to their prototypes, but then neither are the cars *Imagination required.
The Sacramento Northern seems to have had very specific car types, but that said so did most other Interurban lines (or so I assume).
Anyway here are a few preview pictures of what I have done currently and maybe a few down the road. I chose these either because I like the color combination or because of the cars overall similarity to the SN car.

That looks really great so far!

If you're looking for suggestions, look at the Illinois Terminal Railroad's rolling stock. *!!wink!!*

Lets not forget this one.

These guys ran behind where the house i live in stands. Tracks were pulled up in 1930. Used Catenary in the urban places and 3rd rail for the rural stuff. From the paint it looks like a White or Cream upper with either a blue or brown (and maybe even green) lower part.

Howdy Folks!

Mdk103, as and Illinois resident myself I was thinking of doing an Illinois Terminal car, which ones did you have in mind? The straight orange cars or the cream over green?
ErikGorbiHamilton, the PSE has got to be one of the more elusive railroads I've ever googled *!lol!* Not one color photo too speak of. If I had to pick a color, I like the white over blue or cream over blue. As a local boy do you have any information about markings numbering or anything that might be useful?

Thanks for the compliments and suggestions!

Sadly the PSE was so elusive not even my grandfather knew a lot. The pictures i have seen (All B&W btw) have pointed to having a number board on the left hand window in the engineer's cab. As for marking the reporting mark was probably PSER and the wording Puget Sound Electric or Puget Sound Electric Railway were centered up above the windows.. I have no clue how many cars they totaled although i do think i have a book that has info on this matter. It's if i can find it, that is.

The paint turns out to be more complicated than i thought.

These two pictures show that either a Dark green and a lighter green (and/or brown???) were used. The PSE was made up of other lines in the early 1900's so it's safe to say that some of these cars were from older lines that were not yet repainted.

FWIW, the IT heavyweight cars (which would most closely resemble the SN combine), when rebuilt to the arch roof form were traction orange. In later years a number of them were painted blue. Green and cream to my knowledge was only used on lighter and smaller cars.

So maybe a better question to ask would be, which color(s) would you like them to be? :D

Zach, no offense to anyone else, but if there is one person I would trust when it comes to anything 'traction related' its certainly you. As always thanks for the knowledge. I take it the IT cars before the rebuild were orange as well?

Thanks again guys!

I would go with the Cream over Blue setup.

Howdy Folks!

Hope everyone is having a good week, getting their beer kegs ready for Sunday!

Been futzing around with this SN Interurban. To the folks at Gtrax: !*salute*!
You guys did a great job of mapping this car. That said it was a real pain to reverse engineer (good thing those SN cars were all green).
It took me 3 days to figure out what went where. That said now I can pump repaints out with relative ease.
***To anyone who would like to repaint these, please PM before you do. I will gladly send you my template, and save you a lot of time and hair loss. !*hp*!

At any rate, here is what I've been up to:

Next, start working on Mr. Hamilton's PSE cars!

Have a good day!

Oh yeah THAT train station... *cough *!embar*!

Well, there is this guy who makes REALLY nice models and I thought maybe I'd give it a fresh coat of paint and see how it looked *!!wink!!*
That said it looks great in red and white! !!*ok*!!
Don't worry, its for a personal route I had no intentions of uploading.

Have a good day!

Looks like it would make a great route, I'd love to see it continue and eventually be released to the RWA file library.

I can even make some building for it as well.

...Cheers...

So Hyped! AFAIK There are NO repaints or models ANYWHERE for ANY SIM of my local interurban! This will gladly be the first ever virtual repaint representing what i call "the most elusive interurban known to man".

!*cheers*!

Hope your all having a nice day!

Mr. Hamilton, if I may, I need your advice/opinion on how this looks.

tac-sea-interub-valley-web1.jpg

In my humble opinion, that color scheme looked better in my mind. Once I got it on the screen it looks a little weird. !*don-know!*
Should I make it darker, lighter, change the color all together, or just leave it?

Also, ignore the road numbers. I haven't changed them yet. I've found (in what few pictures exist) this picture with the 500 leading and another picture with a 527 leading. So I'll make a smattering of randomly numbered cars from 500 to 550. Sound good?

Also Zack (nsl714) if your out there, before the IT added arched windows to their cars (which sounds like a REAL pain in the posterior) were they orange with that sort of maroon roof? Or did the orange paint come later?

Thanks in advance for the knowledge, have a great day!
