Some Projects

Unread postby trainboi1 » Mon Jan 02, 2017 12:54 am

Can't guarantee at this point that anything I post here will ever make it to any release, but I might at least put out that I've got some things going. Here's a couple examples of what you can probably expect from me in the (probably distant) future. Not sure whether this will be for TS17 or TSW, probably it depends on if the latter is any good or not, and/or if its creation program is any more or less muddled and confusing than the former's. *!!wink!!*
Anyway, a couple things on my agenda to try and put into RW include:
Image
Thanks to Mike Rennie's excellent Jupiter project I'm hoping to get some of my own CP projects in-game if at all possible. Another is below:
Image
"El Goob" is partway through mapping, but it's going to be a while yet. Hoping I can figure out how to actually enable the rear driver to slide laterally as it could in real life.
Image
One of my oldest models. If there is enough interest I could probably salvage a few parts of it and maybe retrieve a workable Mason.

Just testing the waters at this point, really. I've got a lot of models kicking about that I could do some work on if there's enough interest, but mostly I'd like to focus on the Old West for TS because honestly it needs the most help in the variety department.

Thank you! Though of course it is very high-poly with those panelled drivers and such! That 4-6-0 sits at an exhorbitant 189,000 polygons for full detail, and El Goob ironically clocks in at 187K, a wee bit short of its cousin. So some massive LoD (and maybe not a full headlight interior in the case of El Goob) is going to be in order...
While I was thinking about it, got started on updates to the ol' Bogie using some parts from the CP engines -

And showing off a WIP of one of the Stevens 4-6-0s under SP ownership in the mid-1890s.

I would like to see these eventually released to Train Simulator 2017, they would be awesome.

I love pre-turn of (the last) century steam. I hope to see them make it into 17.

Lovely modelling !!*ok*!! It's great to see plenty of interest in locos from the 1800s.

On the one that's textured, is it already using RW shaders or does that still need to be done?

It's not, I don't know anything of RW materials as yet. !*don-know!* I'm going to work on messing around with a test object (probably an engine shed to ease myself into things) on the morrow, since I'll be busy all day today.

I am looking forward to to seeing more of early railroad equipment. I think that Mike has sparked renewed interest. I am also hoping to see early renditions of iconic routes such as Central Pacific's Donner Pass done at the turn of the century especially with Colfax CA interchange with Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad (NCNGRR) and PRR Horseshoe Curve. As regards to NCNGRR I can supply a ton of information regarding this Railroad being a member of the museum.

Tell Andrew Brandon I said hi next time you see him. *!lol!* I've visited the NCNG museum a few times now; it's a great little collection. As for the idea of an early Donner Pass, yes please! Although mid-1880s Sacramento would be great to see as well, since you'd then get a healthy mix of SP, CP and Mountain Division locos as well as the El Goob.
(I refer to CP and CP mountain division separately because of the different details like coal firing, flat-topped boilers, single domes and other unique and wonderful variations that could only be seen on certain parts of the network)

I don't want to be a downer in any way but it's a long way from what is obviously a beautiful 3D model to a animated Railworks locomotive.

Good, don't want people getting ahead of themselves (or more probably, getting ahead of me!)
Working on updating the Mason some more...

I think the early version looked good as well.
