How about some animated scenery from jpetersjr

A new project, my first official freeware animated scenery item, a farris wheel.

Farris Wheel WIP 1.jpg

So far I've got the wheel animated and I'm animating the cars, next will come the night lights that will go on the wheel.

Also, I'm building it in only 3D Crafter.

My only question is how do you get a animated scenery item out of 3D Crafter and into Railworks. Every time I try to do so it crashes the editor saying that it can't find the IA animation file, what might I be doing wrong here???

You need to export two files. The IGS and the IA. The Blueprint Editor will convert the IA to a BAN. The export wizard has an option to do animated assets and will do both steps for you, but if you are customizing your LODs and groups yourself you should use the File > Export option and run ti twice (once for IGS and again for IA).

Where would I find the correct thing in the export wizard, it crashes everytime I try to toggle scenery item in the asset wizard and won't export. When I export the old way it exports the file as a plain IA, how can I convert it to a ban file the manual way?

In my 8.1 version I can't find a option in the export wizard for a animated scenery item.

Some more progress, once I get it into the game I'll make a video.

The blueprint editor will convert the IA into a BAN for you. Just place it next to the IGS. You may need to reference the IA file in the blueprint (I am not sure and its not in front of me right now).

I think that might be it, will need to know how to reference it in the source folder.

Here's a video of a couple of items I'm also working on.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnVuNJAoh58

The first is a small animated racetrack.

The racetrack is currently finished and ready to go in the game, but I'm still trying to figure out how to get it into the game without crashing the editor due to a fact that for some reason the editor can't find the animation IA file, even know it's in the source folder right under the XML file

The second is a animated car factory I'm working on for the game. Idea for the factory from a building I saw in the original Railroad Tycoon 3 game.

As for the farris wheel, I'm having some problems with the animation at the moment, I'll have to redo the animation.

P.S, sorry for the bad video quality, 3D Crafter doesn't have a very good recording operation in it.

FWIW, it's spelled Ferris wheel, designed by George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr.

Will upload this after I have more assets finished to add to the set from the fair or theme park, such as the ferris wheel.

And no, the sound isn't coming from the carousel, it's coming from the engine in the background.

You have an engine that plays "Stars and stripes forever"?
Anyway, nice work!

:D Love it! It reminds me... I went to a steam festival about 4 years ago and they imported the worlds largest steam powered carousel. It was indescribably amazing.

There was a engine sound, but later I replaced it with a song on the video, there is no engine that plays stars and stripes forever.

Now that I'm thinking about it, an engine playing "Stars and stripes forever" would be awesome.
Also one with Colonel Bogey's march.

Perhaps the tempo and volume could go up as throttle increases.

Imagine a 6-engine consist barrelling through Pittsburg at 70 mph at 3AM.
