Dakota And Iowa Railroad

Unread postby Unlimited » Thu Dec 29, 2011 4:32 pm

I'm currently trying to make DAIR locomotives for TS2012. Going fine so far just might have issues around the nose area with the red strip coming down. And trying to get the Logos on the side. This is my second repaint; first engine though.

Couple things if I may.

1) the red stripe seems to be to low and wide. Perhaps move it up to where it just clips the vent, and narrow it down so it grazes the tops of the access panels (hard to tell if they did color the tops of the panels)

2) the red stripe V's in the back as well, this will help with avoiding the rear number boards

I am looking at some of the light configs and they feel like old SP's, but they never had any standard SD40's. Do you know who did the down grade from 40 to 39?

I'm not sure if Midwest Railcar did the downgrade at all or not. I know they do that on certain occasion. I will have to try to make the V in the back, not sure how I forgot that.

I also noticed the paint design is diffrent on some of them. Like the red strip is off by some. But different locomotive.

Random Info

The current D&I fleet includes:

Locomotives:
14 - GP 9
2 - GP 7
2 - SD 39-3
2 - GP 39-2
2 - GP 50
3 - SD 40-2
2 - SW 15
1 - SW 8

Railcars:
60 - 2006 Built Ballast Hoppers
200 - 2006 Built Rapid Discharge Hoppers
617 - Open Top Aggregate Hoppers
110 - Aggregate Gondolas

EDIT: I tried to change the V in the back but I cannot save it back into .dds to convert back into game. !*hp*! Any ideas?

I get this when trying to save it back to .dds after opening from .psd from repainting it before.

And I do what it says, they still do not let me rewrite the file to get it ingame.

Ok now it has a V in the back and I cut the red strips in half to narrow them down some. I also colored the floor walk to black as in some of their pictures.

I have yet to add the decal to it.

That little button that says 'Place in line'

allows you to place an image in line in a post (as I've done above) instead of at the end of the post. *!!wink!!*

Didn't know that Hawk, thanks.

How can I repaint the railings of the locomotive? I tried doing it the same way on it like the other ones. But this is what I get when I put it back ingame.

Does anyone know how to fix this? That would be VERY helpful. All I have until this unit is completed is to paint the handrails black.

I got it to work after working with it for a few hours.

Here are some shots of the completed engine with some of the company rolling stock. The last one is before I got the railing painted. Thanks for the help.

That is looking sharp.

A couple sugjestions: The yellow is a bit off, maybe more of a UP yellow. Try and grab it off the UP SD40. Second, you should be able to move the numbering from the end to the middle of the body by using Kali's library.

Did you fix the texturing problem with the hand rails, I was not sure if you did.

Yes, I was able to fix the textures of the handrails. I just used Photoshop and took a paint sample off a picture I have and used that for the deeper color. For the numbers, I kinda like them back near the end like that. Maybe once I get into repainting more; I'll go back and edit that.
