One version of the SD40 that we need for SP and DRGW is the SD40T tunnel motor. as far as I can see, it would only involve minor changes on the rear hood area, all else would be the same. Something I hope you will consider.

You're right about the hood modifications, GP-40/GP40-2 series and the SD40/SD40-2/SD40T series were very similar externally, and I have some pretty good drawings for all of them. The only real challenge would be modeling the trucks to the same level of detail that I've incorporated into my Blombergs. It would be very helpful to have at least a few closeup high-resolution photos of the HTC trucks used on the SD's before I start modeling; if anyone could provide me with photos, that would be a great help, and of course I could use the trucks (with a few slight modifications) on pretty much all SD's produced by EMD until the SD-70 series.

Thanks,
Giuseppe

Keep in mind with a GP 40,you have nearly an identical mesh for a GP 38. You could really get a lot of mileage out of this model with some variations. I personally need 38's and 40's without dynamics ,as I am modeling the DT&I. Gtrax does have a nice GP40-2,but it is too new for me(ditch lights) and is also dynamic braked,so what you are working on will fit the bill for many. Keep up the good work!

This is nice, are you planning on a GP38/40 with no ditch lights?

What was the GP38-3L was in all exterior appearances exactly like the GP40 ( three radiator fans, etc.). Just by replacing the three fans with slightly larger twins and a single radiator grill, you'd have a -2L! in all a very flexible model with a lot of units out there.
