New Route (Allegheny Eastern)

Unread postby mikeg1250 » Tue Oct 25, 2011 12:40 am

I've been working on my own route for Railworks on and off for the better part of 3 months now and I thought I would share with you guys what I've been working on. The route is meant to be semi prototypical. It is based off the former PRR (now NS) Buffalo Line between Northumberland and Lock Haven, PA (actually I have modeled just south of Northumberland to Selinsgrove junction and to the west shore of the Susquehanna up to Shamokin Dam power plant). The route is by no means has 100% accurate scenery.

The route will be known as the Allegheny Eastern; named for the fictional shortline which will operate the railroad between Northumberland and Lock Haven on a lease agreement from Norfolk Southern (very similar to how the real Buffalo Line is being pieced out today). To date I have track laid between Shamokin Dam and a location about 3 miles north of Northumberland with about 40% of the scenery completed for that portion. I hope to release the finished product as freeware sometime in the future but given the about of different assets I have used from all of railworks I'm not sure if that will be possible (the list of the required downloads alone may take a month to complete *!sad!* ).

The 2 main reasons for sharing the progress thus far with everyone was to:

1. Get some feed back (positive or negative) concerning the progress to date.

2. Show case what is possible to create with the assets which exist out there for Railworks (mostly freewassets assests included with the HSC and Portland Terminal routes.....my two favorites)

So let me know your thoughts guys and gals!

Northumberland Yards. The larger yard in the background is used by the AE and NS. The small yard in the foreground is for the local shortline. As you can imagine, the yard is quite busy with interchange traffic.

Steam is also no stranger on the AE as management is very friendly to operating railfan specials

If God had intended for man to fly, He wouldn't have given us the railroads.

Hi,

this looks very well indeed! Thanks for sharing the pictures. It's great to see so many routes being developed for this part of the US, much more than there were for MSTS as far as I can remember.

Cheers,
Michael

I agree this looks great! It seems like new routes for NS/CSX are popping up all the time now. This is two Allegheny routes now and of course HSC, I'm beginning on Cincinnati (and south of operations) and I now have a PM from someone else working on a Cincinnati (and north) route. I like the trend... seemed like everything before was out west or Canadian.

Anyway, if this new route is using mostly freeware, don't many of us here already have a huge collection of freeware? People who have been around for awhile may not need to download as much as you think.
