Hi Chacal,

Yeah - it's more effort than I thought it would be - the way everything seemed modular over here - I figured locomotive height would be as simple and an X,Y,Z entry in the bin file. The modeler wasn't as far off in height as I first thought - a close look at the coupler pockets shows he clearly intended the body to be mounted lower. Someone fat fingered it and it wasn't caught before it went into production.

Thanks for the interest - it's a shame - the locos do look good on the route - just not when connected to anything else. I had planned on tackling the GP38 as well - while researching this paint I noticed a great deal of footage of 4 axles pulling freight for Chessie. The Clinchfield GP38 seems lower than the SD35's - which makes the difference to the SD40 even more glaring - who's correct - got me.

If I could satisfy myself - I could see spending many more hours on this - releasing the paints and letting others do as they see fit. For me it's kind of like seeing the man behind the curtain in Oz - once you see the issue - you can't unsee it. Forever more - the SD40 will be too tall.

*!!thnx!!*

Regards,
Scott

Is 'asplode' a technical term? !*roll-laugh*! !*roll-laugh*!

It's a highly technical term, to use when a simple "explode" just won't do.

It's probably possible by editing the loco's blueprint but I haven't done this kind of things for many years so I can't help much.

Probably I'd start by opening sd40_2_black.bin in TS-Tools, and look for the <Bogey> section. Then I'd have a closed look at the height of the pivot point for each bogey, which is probably something like <BogeyPivotY>, and if it was, say, something around 0.5 m, I'd try to lower it a bit and see if that sits the body more snugly on the bogeys without looking bad.

But then I don't really know if it makes any sense and the engines may asplode or launch into orbit at first try.

Hi Chacal,

I did give this a try - no detectible vertical movement of the body. Started with small increments - then to huge ones - am I in the right place?

No asplosions either.

Oh and you need to recompile the xml into a .bin if you're not using TS-Tools for editing the blueprint.
Then of course you must delete blueprints.pak in the product folder.

Hi Chacal,

Ok - thanks - I’ll take a look. I am using TS-Tools and was just hitting save. I’ve only been modifying things in TSC for about a week (other than simple installs of other peoples work) - much to learn - thanks for your patience.

Hi Folks,

I had no luck getting any of the attempted body movements to work. I deleted the - Blueprints.pak - I cleared the cache - nothing seemed to work. I tried moving the headout position further out - that didn't work either - I must be missing something. The name changes and pathing seem to work.

Nevertheless - I finished the paints for both B&O and C&O and if anyone wants to take a gander - to insure I did it correctly and I haven't committed any sins while putting this pack together - please just PM me. I'd like to insure they are acceptable for upload. This is my first work for RW so I may have made some gross errors. They seem to work on my PC. I haven't painted anyone else's locomotives in more than a decade - now I remember why. While I could do a WM in black - the mappings will not work for Chessie or WM Circus - - - or even the C&O yellow nose.

I really had visions of having a fleet of SD40's for this beautiful route. Hopefully - SS and JR come through someday - the models are already built and painted. I'd pay a pretty penny for this collection.
