FEC ES44C4

Sort of ..... as they say, the devil is in the details.

This repaint has been a challenge. I've run in to a quite a few snags trying to get a decent repaint of an ES44 in FEC livery. I settled on the RSC CSX release as my starting point since it was the closest physical model. The texture mapping has presented some problems, most of them minor such as hinges that use the same texture in areas where a different color would be desirable, but I'm ok with those minor issues. The main one that has been an issue is the texture mapping around the front door window. There is an area on the front door that was used and rotated 90 degrees to surround the window, so the four black bars of the chevron on the nose cannot be directly painted on in the proper position. I have it positioned lower than the prototype for now. I believe a decal child object could be used to solve this problem, but I have no experience doing that and don't have the time right now to take that project on.

I'll keep plugging away at painting some of the remaining small pieces from the hundreds on the texture maps and at some point I'll hopefully sort out the chevron position on the nose.

That is, by far, the most impressive GEVO reskin I've ever seen. Awesome job!

Thanks for the positive comments everyone! They encouraged me to learn how to make the decal in Blender and then figure out how to place the child object on the locomotive. Now the front chevron is in the proper position and looking good. I'll track down the remaining little pieces and get them painted and get this finished up soon. !!*ok*!!

I am curious as to how you add the Florida East Coast down the sides without a decal object. I have a KCS ES44AC that I stopped working on because I could not overcome this issue.

The logos on the sides have to be scaled, aligned and layered on two different texture files. I believe the main body and cabinet plan. Copy and duplicate the layer containing the logo from one file to the other. I think I had to do a scale transformation because the textures are different size files, so they are not a one to one fit. Using multiply blending mode over the grey scale background template will only show that part of the logo needed on each texture file. I make an alignment layer in each file for registration using day glow green dots for say the upper left and lower right boundaries of the logo. This helps to scale, align, etc. Then just turn that layer off before exporting to a DDS. I use Photoshop CC.
