[WIP] BNSF 8070

Unread postby bpetit » Tue Feb 21, 2017 2:38 am

BNSF 8070 was a one of a kind locomotive. Its almost done. I just need to figure how to hide the cab numbers, paint the ditchlights black, and paint the black paint in the nose light. (Which I can't find atm..) This is also my very first repaint. !!*ok*!!

Looking... accurate! I didn't know that this beast existed. Is it based off of the BN SD40-2 pack 1?

BNSF SD40-2 Pack 01. Comes with H1 and H3.

Ofc right after I posted this. I found the nose light texture. Edit: and the conductor's side window turned green. !*hp*!

Are you going to edit the .bin/xml file to limit the autonumbering to 8070?

That is already done. Although removing the cab numbers isn't as easy as I though it would be.

If u want to hide the numbers, only pick 8, 7 and 0 and open them into your paint program, in gimp u have to set the alpha threshold to 255 and save them with the right compression and thats it.
With paint.net I have no idea how to change the threshold, maybe for this u ask Buzz, because he knows the program very well.
If u use Adobe PS, I think I can remember on days I used it, it was the same way like in gimp.

But be careful, if u change the alpha threshold only for the numbers on the side, u have to mark only these numbers and edit the aplha threshold to 255.
(or 0) Hope this helps.

About the repaint, yes it looks very nice. !!*ok*!!

A word of warning to anyone that decides to repaint the BnsfPack01 from RSC. You will not be able to do the rear number boards.

I repainted the RSC GP38 and the number board work fine for me. Did you paint on the number boards or did you paint on the numbers themselves?

Because this locomotive only has the primarynumbers 0,1,2, and 3. Not 9 like the BN Geep has.

Were those the only numbers in the textures folder?

No, the numbers on the cab are number 1, 2, 3, to 9. Which appear under the cab windows. So I alpha'd those out because otherwise it wouldn't work.

From the photos above you managed to get 8070 as the numbers. If you only alpha out the black numbers in the texture files you would keep the numbers on the number boards working while not having them under the windows.
