Anyone know about road textures? [Solved]

Unread postby Tuddley3 » Thu Jul 31, 2014 5:54 am

I'm looking to re-texture some roads, but they look weird when you open them. I think I have the same textures matched up here, how can I take the dds file to where it looks like it does ingame? I really want to redo these textures, they look terrible and not very realistic. See how the file looks different than it does in the sim. Or did Dovetail do something to them so they can't be modified?

EDIT: The road in the screenshot is not the same as the file shown. Does anyone know the name of the road in the screenshot so I can replace it? !*don-know!*

In GIMP, it shows as transparent.

It appears to have been saved as a DDS 5 file. You can download the RSBin tool from the library here, and it will handle it properly.

Actually it was the correct file, after replacing the texture with another one, it wasn't showing up in the sim. I forgot one step, placing it back in the .ap file. Mission accomplished. No more ugly pink blotchy road, and I have since changed the center line to yellow. !!*ok*!! So now I will do the same to the 1 lane and 2 lane roads, then upload them to the File Library for all to enjoy.

You don't have to do that.
Simply place the file in the correct folder structure outside the .ap file, creating it as necessary.

Buzz keeps telling me that too, so I went back into the Assests folder to investigate why it wasn't working for me. I found the answer, when I was extracting the ap files with 7zip, I was choosing Extract Files instead of Extract Here. !DUH! Now I can store the ap files on an external HD and save space on the C Drive.
