Reinventing the Wheel

Unread postby simer4 » Thu Nov 07, 2013 12:20 am

There is one thing that has bothered me so much all the way back to Rail Simulator. The textures on the base assets. One bothered me the most - the trucks. That is why I have re-textured them, either by making my own textures, or by re-working the old ones to suit my tastes, my rust filled tastes. One thing I made sure of, is to make sure that the bearing end caps spin in a perfect circle, rather than offset like the base textures. I made the bearing caps from scratch. I am very proud of them.

Now with 25% more rust!

I know that these aren't a complete overhaul, but it is what I wanted to be done, and I really like the results. I will be uploading these textures tonight (hopefully). These textures are only for the well cars. I will see what I can do about the other railcars.

That looks impressive. I hope you can generalize this for other cars as well.

Those look very good! !!*ok*!!

But I wouldn't use these for every one. Cars of differing ages and wheel condition won't have that much rust. Especially those coated with greasy oil and brake dust. Oil is a rust inhibitor. It's why when you buy a CV axle or drive shaft for your car, it's coated with a very thin layer of oil so it won't rust in the box on the shelf.

I'd have a train with a mix of rusted and not so rusted.
