Krellnut's Wagon Sounds for All US DLC Wagons - Beta

Hi all,

Some of you may or may not have read the thread over at TS.com forums where Walter and I were going back and forth on trying to get his fantastic FreightWagon Sounds v2 working with other RSC DLC. It went South pretty quickly, as I was told it was either myself or my PC that was the problem with the sounds not working. I knew it was neither and was able to isolate the issues.

The problem was the "Freight Wagons.proxyxml" file referencing empty wav files and files that did not exist in v2 of Walter's sounds. There were also several references to files with the wrong names. This caused the sounds to cut-off and start abruptly, as well as causing not all of the sounds to play in TS2014, which was causing some of the cars to glide by silently. I modified all 20 of the Frieght Wagon.proxyxml files by stripping out the references to these empty and missing wav files and the problem was resolved. Perhaps TS2014 treats references to bogus files or files that don't exist differently than TS2013. Dunno, but it is working. :-)

Anyway, Walter gave me permission to release a batch file that will copy the correct files to the correct locations in TS2013/TS2014 to get all of the US DLC working with his sounds. Everything RSC has ever released for US content to date.

Here's a copy of the file for now. If anyone would like to test, please let me know if it works out ok for you. It should be good.

http://home.windstream.net/thunderpunk/WagonFreightSoundPack%20v2%20US%20DLC.zip

Be aware that I own ALL US content in TS2014, so ALL folders for this content will be copied to your TS2014 unless you go in and delete the ones you don't own. I don't see an issue with letting the batch file copy the folders anyway. That way, they will be there should you decide to purchase any of the currently available US content from Steam. All that you will have to do is run the batch file after your purchase.

A big thanks to Walter for the sounds and Doc Machinist for the batch file.

I was wondering about those wav files. They were showing up as errors in logmate, but I didn't have time to hunt it down.

I think this was done to allow different frequencies of the defective wheels. By naming some of the more pronounced defective sound wav files to *0_3.wav, etc., they wouldn't play. TS2014 didn't like this at all. So, the ability to change the frequency of defective wheels may have been diminished with this mod as a result. Not a big deal, but I'm sure there was a reason why Walter had those references in there. Technically, I could have removed the reference entirely and achieved the same effect. I just wasn't sure if this was done on purpose or not, so I corrected the errors by renaming the files correctly.

Thanks so much for your efforts. Will check this out after work. Still can't figure out how TS2014 accepts the whisper sounds of it equipment going by.
Have they never stood by a U.S. freight going rumbling by? !*don-know!*

Honestly, with YouTube, RSC have no excuse other than pure laziness not to have corrected this.

You would not believe how much time and effort went into Krellnut's sound package. We need to remember that there are people like Wally and appreciate him for the efforts. No matter how much he would have been paid it wouldn't be enough.

It is greatly appreciated.

Even though I may have come off a bit crass in the thread over at TS.com, it is only because I knew there had to be an answer. I tend to dig deep when confronting technical issues and was disappointed that Walter did not feel the same. Correcting the sound issues in this sim have to be one of the most difficult things to tackle. Walter's efforts have changed this sim from a mediocre experience to something truly immersive. It is a pity the RSC doesn't feel the same way about correcting their own product.

Much respect for the time he put into not only his wagon sounds, but his ES44 and SD70 sound packs. Without Walter's sounds, the sim is not worth playing IMO.

I'll have to give this a try.
I just noticed last night for the first time, that the routes that were not converted to the new .ap format seemed to be fine, but Donner was quiet sometimes, even though I double checked the file paths.

Well, well.................Looks like Pacific Surfliner and a new ES44DC have just been released. I will add these two to the batch file before I upload it to the file library.

Careful! Don't do it to the passenger cars, because I used some good sounds on these, but no wheel flats so the stock doesn't sound like a freight train going by :)

Yes, I need to go into the Beta and make sure there are no passenger sounds setup and strip them out.

Ok Fellas,

I removed several passenger entries in the original Beta and have uploaded the new version which includes the new BNSF ES44DC. Use the link above to re-download if you downloaded this earlier today.

Installed the v2 sounds and the proxypack. Now my trains are nicely noisy again, sqeaking, rambling, stomping and whatever other description of heavy metal sound suits you.

I had to rename the ES44BNSFAssets folder into ES44BNSFPack01, and now the new BNSF cars are nicely noise also.
Perhaps you'd take that folder name into consideration for the next revision of your pack once the Surfliner route is out. I could well image the Surfliner route doesn't come with any freight cars in the end.

Where are switch and bridge rumble sounds taken from, the cars or the track or the bridge? Perhaps a modifier chain is able to modify the sounding of Krellnut's pack as the cars go over the switch or bridge?
