Vermont Railway RS3s Available Soon

Unread postby dgallina » Tue Aug 20, 2013 1:26 am

Hi Everyone,

I've uploaded a two-pack of Vermont Railway RS3 reskins built on Richard Cowan's free Kit 08. These should hopefully be available in the library within 48 hours. I think these look pretty nice on a snowy day, though they aren't quite perfect due to the auto-numbering system and a few other small details. Screenshot attached.

I hope those interested enjoy the obscure Eastern-US shortline content. IMO there's not NEARLY enough of this stuff for Railworks!

By way of belated introduction, I'm new to Railworks/Train Simulator, coming from 10+ years in Trainz. I've developed a little content (mostly repaints) in that time and hope to bring more of it over to Railworks over time.

Thanks,
Diego Gallina

Hello Again,

A few minor updates:

1. The original versions have an XML typo that keeps the footboards from appearing as you'd expect. An updated version has been uploaded and should be available soon.

2. I've also uploaded an additional unit #602. This one is based on the PAYWARE RS3 08 kit. It includes add-on child features such as a 5 chime horn, dual horizontal headlights, drop-step pilot, and class lights. VTR only had one of these odd-ball units & the model should come reasonably close apart from the missing high number boards (which I don't think exist as a child part).

Have fun and thanks,
Diego

If you need the high number board I can share the one I made for sw9. You will need to paint the numbers on though.

Hi Papa,

Yes. If you have high boards that I can setup as child parts that'd be very helpful :-)

OK, found it.
http://railworksamerica.com/index.php/d ... e-repaints

If you don't own the Britkits 'Kit 05 SW1200 Xtra Pack' then you will not be able to run the SW9, but you can use the dmv_wingboardright01.GeoPcDx and dmv_wingboardleft01.GeoPcDx in the fittings folder: Assets\Britkits\EMD\RailVehicles\Diesel\SW9\UP-1831-SW9\Fittings

I linked them to the head lights so look the 'SW9_EngineScript.lua'
here: Assets\Britkits\EMD\RailVehicles\Diesel\SW9\UP-1831-SW9\Engine

You will see where I use the Call() function to turn the numberboards on and off. Just copy those snippets of code and paste them into the same sections in your RS3 engine script.

When you release you must include this statement in your readme:

Wing Number Boards ©2012 By Dan Vystrcil (PapaXpress on www.railworksamerica.com) (used with permission) which can be shared freely as you wish, but may not be sold as payware or sold in a payware package. You must also include this copyright and restrictions in your readme file, in its entirety.

If you end up using more of my parts (DMV_*) just add the part name to the beginning of the copyright. Like this:

Rotary Beacons, Grill Shroud/Screen, Deck Coupler Release, Radiator Handrail, Wing Number Boards, and Radio Antennas ©2012 By Dan Vystrcil (PapaXpress on www.railworksamerica.com) (used with permission) which can be shared freely as you wish, but may not be sold as payware or sold in a payware package. You must also include this copyright and restrictions in your readme file, in its entirety.

Hi again everyone,

The updated VTR RS3s have been uploaded to the file library and should be available soon.

All units now include snow and cablight effects taken from Richard's SP RS3 snow and GP9 freeware units, respectively.

Unit 602 (the one that requires Kit 08 Xtra) now includes fantastic parts by PapaXpress. See the image below for the more prototypical high number boards and awesome red rotating beacon. I *think* this might be the first RS3 unit with these bits.

Please *do* read / follow the install notes carefully as the snow, cablight, and Xtra kit parts require some manual file copies.

Thanks,
Diego

Hi Gang,

The complete set of 3 VTR RS3s is now available on the file library as "Vermont Railway RS3s Final". Please *do not* download the "Vermont Railway Alco RS3 602" that is also posted. It contains an older version of the 602 unit that is already in the complete set above.

Do read the updated instructions please, as you need to have a few dependencies for unit 602 to work as described.

Thanks again to PapaXpress for the detail parts.

A note on Railworks RS3s:.
If you like the RS3 model but wish it had more detail, 'd suggest buying the BritKits / GreatNortherner GN Freight Set 1. It has an upgraded BritKits RS3 model that I *wish* we had for reskinning in Kit 08 Xtra. It includes very nice wingboards, a working radiator fan, built-in cab and truck lights, etc. Hopefully it's a preview of what Britkits will produce if / when the RS3 pack is updated to a newer feature level.

Thanks and have fun,
Diego
