Parcel Equipment Pack

Unread postby SCLJim » Tue Sep 04, 2012 12:46 pm

Been sitting on these for a while and finally got around to packaging and uploading them. They should be listed tomorrow.

The pack includes the following:
28' Parcel Trailer, connected position
28' Parcel Trailer, unconnected position
Converter Dolly, connected position
Converter Dolly, unconnected position

The above should allow you a lot of flexibility in how you set these up.

Enjoy!

What kind of tractor goes in front of these trailers? I imagine a smallish 2 axle one with the engine under a hood/bonnet in front of the cab. Or were they generally pulled by cab-over-engine tractors?

Thanks everyone.

I'd still like to work on a Mack F (cab over) to go with these but I've been a little busy with other projects. Hopefully I can get on it at some point.

So there is nothing available at the moment?

In that case the trailers are parked at the UPS or any other carrier's depot.

They were restricted to cab overs back in the 70s/80s. Later, I think, the regulations on total length were relaxed which allowed for standard cabs to pull these like the Mack CH, etc. I've seen both single rear axle and double pulling these. I know there are others on here that are a lot more knowledgeable on this. Maybe they can add to the info.

All UPS tractors were special orders with very tight restrictions on add-on acccesories.
For years they went without air conditioning in the cabs until the Union stepped in, really. !*roll-laugh*!
Also some of these units are pulled in triple configuration getting the nickname wiggle wagons. There not allowed
triple in Illinois.

Are these tractors called "suicide cabs" or is that urban legend?

And three trailers, even if only 28' each add up to something like 120-130 feet, tractor and dollies included. Is that called a "road train" in some states?
I can imagine these combinations swerve all over the lane and probably the adjacent one as well in side winds, as parcel trailers aren't that heavy, even when loaded.

Any simi-trailer can be a "kite in the wind" when empty. The less than truckload carriers(LTL) rarely, if ever run empty.
When pulling mulitipl trailers the heaviest trailer goes behinde the cab first. Then the lighter trailers come next to lessen the "Crack the Whip" effect.

Excellent, thanks to Jim for his trailer pack.

Do ya think you could do a FedEx cab over as well as a UPS one, for 9000ft's 53ft trailers we already have, please. Thank u.
