EMD SD7 (GN) released

Hi,

My EMD SD7 has just been released. I tested it in the newly updated TS2012 and it seems to work fine.

The first version of this locomotive is a phase-1 SD7 in four GN versions, all running long hood forward. This is the first stable release of my SD7 model and it runs okay. Some future refinements, most of them on the cab model, still need to be made and will be released as a future update.

You can download the GN SD7 Pack here:
http://golden-age-rails.com/freightcarp ... sd7gn.html

A small patch is now available too. It fixes a glitch in the braking simulation and adds the bogie and coupling sounds which I forgot. !!**sorry**!!
Please install this small package file on top of the main installer: http://golden-age-rails.com/freeware/em ... Patch1.rwp

Cheers,
Michael

PS: Sorry for the cross posting, but I thought I should mention this here too because the thread title "Cadillac WIP" in the Golden Age forum might be easy to miss.

Just installed them and added them to a session. Having some ... oddness with the train brakes.

When I apply them I have to move the brake handle to about 75% before anything begins to happen. At that point I'll get brake cylinder pressure of 10-12 lbs, which might increase to 18-20 pounds in 45 seconds to a minute after the initial application.

If I move the handle to the release position the cylnder pressure rapidly rises to 45-50 pounds, then slowly drops to almost zero. I can't tell exactly because when the pressure drops to less than about 8 pounds it no longer displays the the cylinder pressure in the HUD. It sill remain that way for another 15-20 seconds. Finally the brakes release.

Makes switching operations an adventure.

Your PDF says you're using the default F-7 physics, so I assume that means the brake physics as part of that. I tried running the default F-7 in a different session and it works fine.

I just finished the "upgrade" so maybe that had some impact, but I doubt it.

What am I doing wrong? !*don-know!*

I did notice the same with the breaks but I bet that setting can be tweaked. Out of the box I enjoy them. I hope to see some in Pennsylvania, B&O and possibly Bessemer and Lake Erie and of course other railroads who used them. !!*ok*!! !!*ok*!! !*salute*! !*cheers*! **!!bow!!** *!greengrin!*

I hope to see a Anne Arbor of it, if Anne Arbor had any SD7's.

Hi,

Thanks for your comments and observations. The brake physics were indeed a bit messed up on the engine, I tried to get the simulation data from the default F7 but accidentally grabbed a few settings from my experimental F7 physics mod. Apparently the two don't get along too well when put in the same engine. !!bang!!

A small patch is now available. It reverts the braking simulation back to (almost) default and while I was at it also adds the bogie and coupling sounds which I forgot. !!**sorry**!!

Please install this small package file on top of the main installer: http://golden-age-rails.com/freeware/em ... Patch1.rwp

Sorry for these errors!

Michael

I find the brakes easy to use, after I got used to them.

Thanks for the patch, Michael. I was almost convinced it was some weird realistic prototoype thing, and that I was the one who didn't understand it. It's good to know I'm not that inept.

All we need now is a good horn and bell to go with it.

Great engine!
It's perfect for the BN-Harvest scenario for GN-Butte division.
Does it have more traction than the GP7?

Hi,

Thanks, everybody! *!!thnx!!*

More traction: I'm afraid my model currently has the same simulation data (power) as the F7. So the two extra axles are useless in the sim. It is geared to a top speed of 65 mph, so the starting TE is higher than on the default F7s, but it should be even bigger. However, I have yet to figure out how to input this into the simulation BIN file.

Cheers,
Michael

Just wondering, would using the SD40-2's sim files as a basis for the SD7 be of any benefit to simulate all the axles? I've never personally taken a look in that file so I have no clue, just a hunch.
