ES44AC show time! I'll keep this first post updated with upcoming new enhancements for re-painted ES44AC (based on TS2012 Default).

*** Features ***

1) Modified: Headlights and Rear lights, Tail (Dim) lights.
2) Added: Cab lights, Number Display lights, Step lights and others.
3) Modified: Cab and Head Out view, complete crew with 3 members.
4) Added trackside animated figures.
5) One free-roam scenario on "Barstow to San Bernardino" Route:
"Show Case ES44AC Liverie at night" for you test and see the power of pack.

Use F6 to see the names of engines.
I suggest you to ride the eastbound 'To Pink Tower' engine, and close to the Tower ride the westbound 'To Helendale' consist (a heavy consist with a helper engine) back to 'Helendale Siding 2'.

How do you get it do dark? At best I can get it fairly dark by setting time to 1am, overcast in winter. Is my contrast turned up too high?

There are a lot questions related to your question...

Type of monitor screen. Usually a laptop has a brighter (more shining) luminosity, it's not designed to play games but to faster and mobile activities. It varies also if is LCD, plasma etc. As much opaque the screen as better to play games in general. I never tweak lighting enhancements on my laptop for this reason.

Real ambient light. Are you playing during the day or at night? At day is the windows of your room opened, closed? What type of lamp are you using, fluorescent? 40W, 120W, 200W? Is it over you, behind you?

So far I'm talking only about real life lighting, but there is also the game lighting: TOD Time of Day and Weather blueprints etc. etc. etc. And that' is a more complex talking...

Bottom line, so far. When I'm playing, especially if I'm tweaking lighting, if is at day I close the room's window to let me use the artificial lamps (fluorescent 120W) like if I was at night, therefore I have quite the same pattern at every time of day. Despite of that I usually set the brightness of game (in game | options | advanced) to 30/31 at day, and to 29 (default) at night. You have to test according to your real ambient lighting and type (opaqueness) of your monitor screen, and also check if both monitor (device) and in-game brightness are set too much high (as you said).

In all routes (now I'm talking about virtual lighting) still exist a reminiscence of RW2 times, ie, the ambient light (TOD) is too much brighter, that was needed in RW2 (when we didn't have headlight) but is weird on TS2012 routes. So, using default TOD and Weather blueprints the darker ambient light you usually get is setting to: Winter, between 00:30 and 04:00 (it varies from route to route), and Storm Rain weather (blueprint "stormrainheavy" I guess, I'm not at game pc now to check). Overcast is brighter than Storm, and Storm is brighter than Storm Rain.

In the freeroam scenarios of pack I'm using Winter (or Summer), 23:30 or 00:30 Start TIme, and Storm Rain.

Hope this helps.
Doc.

If it wasn't for the unrealistic looking track bed, It'd be hard to tell this wasn't real.

You can take a rest from my work now. I have nothing coming up for awhile. !*salute*!
I said in my other post about some skin updates. That should have no effect on your enhancements.
Good stuff you're doing there. *!!wink!!*

Enhancement pack is ready, I'm just waiting the final name of update pack on Library (I need it right to my Readme) and then upload the enhancement pack. In meantime some few screenies... *!!wink!!*

Wait, have you made enhancements for the defualt sd40s and es44acs? Or have you only done it for repaints (not sure why you would only do it for repaints.)

I've made the enhancements for all RSC default SD40s and ES44ACs since LEP version 1.0 and now added them (as freeware) for these freeware repaints. LEP update will have enhancements for all (I guess) ES44DC, SD70s and Dash 9s DLC packs also. *!!wink!!*
