Conrail SD40-2

Unread postby ATSF3814 » Fri Oct 07, 2011 12:49 am

Here's one of two Conrail repaints I've been working on for the SD40-2. The other one is the Conrail Quality paint scheme and will be done within the next few days.

Comes complete with autonumbering and over 100 unique road numbers. Goes great with the Horseshoe Curve route too. !!*ok*!!

Looks very nice! Back in 2001 when I last went to Altoona, these units were very prevalent!

It looks great! Very clean paint job. Looks great with the CSX units. Well done!

I brightened the textures a little and made the grab irons white. Just for my own preferences and entertainment.

I prefer the "worn in" look personally, like they've seen a few trips across the country.

But yours looks really great too. !!*ok*!!

I agree, was just about to reply "wheres the 'used ones' at!" Little soot, rust and grime would fit in just fine! !*cheers*!

Oh, me too, I've got your original installed as well. It certainly has a grimy, well used look thats absolutely necessary, especially with Conrail units!

Just want some opinions here. Which looks closer to Conrail Blue to you guys? This one of the hardest shades of blue to get right.

Image Image

The one on top is the blue I felt looked closest and the one on the bottom is using information from here:

Honestly, I've seen so many shades of official "Conrail Blue" that its not funny. They painted locomotives from light blue to dark blue and everything in between. I used the 'official' colors from that site when I did my recolor of your unit, so you can see what it looks like in the screenshots. I think they both look authentic.

Well, I don't think they got many wash/wax jobs so most of what I've seen looked like the first, darker color. I've only seen the bright color ones in pictures... **!!2cents!!** *!rolleyes!*
