It looks great, but the handrails might be a little off. Most of the YN3 SD40-2 pictures I can find show yellow on the rails by the steps, and blue stanchions. Except, the rails on the front and back are all yellow.

Also, most of the cab roof is white:http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/photos/SD40-2/2426CSX-yn3.jpg

This site will help if you do anymore CSX family products. !!*ok*!!

http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/html/CSXSchemes.html

Also the fonts "Lubalin Graph Bold" and "Rockwell" come close to the style used by CSX on the long hood. The numbers use the font "Helvetica". If you would like to pay for a font: http://www.railfonts.com under "Extra Grey Font."

The "Helvetica" and "Lubalin Graph Bold" come right from a CSX YN2 paint chart.

I have those on my PC. I could .rar them up if you need them.

Weird, Pete Willard's Railsimstuff site isn't coming up. !*don-know!*

He has (or had) several free fonts on his site, including a CSX/Chessie System font that's 100% accurate to the real lettering. That's what I used on my Chessie GP9s.

I hope everything is alright with him.

I noticed this a couple days ago while I was looking for fonts to help b737lvr with his numbers.

Its a beautiful paint job! For a first RW attempt, I'm impressed!

I'm doing a little bit of tweaking, just for my own amusement. Hope you dont mind.

I finally got the railings yellow where they need to be yellow, and blue where they need to be blue ;)

The front and back end railings and stanchions are strictly yellow on the prototype, but the way the model is mapped, all the stanchions (except the one with the angled light on it) use the same texture...so I feel its better to use blue.

Also darkened the left side raised walkway to match the rest of the darker walkways.

Its a very nice addition to the roster! Thanks B737lvr!

PS, I can send you the textures I modified if you'd like to take a look at them or use them for anything, just ask.

That explains why I couldn't get it to look right. It was really getting frustrating trying so many different pieces on the template and not getting anywhere. I noticed in your screenshots a couple of other little things I missed on the back. *!embar*!

I can send you the PSD I've been working on if you want.

I'm figuring it out by trial and error as well... **!!bang!!** Some textures are for parts you'd never guess!

Since I just downloaded the file from b737lvr, I'm pretty much reverse engineering it. I'm not using layers, just RW_Tools to convert to dds and edit in Photoshop. I surely can take a look at the original photoshop files, but I'm not a painter, I just poke around in things from time to time. I may not be the best person to get it right! Right now I'm trying to get the numbers the right yellow color. Its better, but no where near perfect. I sampled the color from the other texture sheets, but for some reason it came out brighter:

I think I'm going to call it for tonight, maybe work on it more tomorrow.

Ok, few last things for today: I noticed that the yellow wraps around the nose somewhat, so I tried to replicate this. Also made the nose grab irons yellow, and added a blue tint to the walkways.

Very nice.

The numbers for the SD40-2 on CSX is 8000-8488 (most are gone) and 8800-8889 (8886 & 8889 are in SD45-2 car bodies & 8802, 8816, & 8861 are off the roster). 2411-2442 I believe are yard units mated to slugs and have remote control hardware installed.

Thanks Chessie, I was looking for that font. Most sites wanted money.

B737lvr and ATSF3814, I posted the texture sheets I modified, here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3521&p=33054#p33054

I would have sent the actual files, but I wasnt sure how to upload them.

Feel free to use them if you want to; they're .png's so there shouldnt be much compression loss.

Just zip/rar them up and attach them to a post. !*salute*!

Heres what it tells me:
The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 256 KiB.

The zip is about 1mb.

Changes include:

White cab roof
Short hood yellow paint extended to 'wrap around'
Railings, stanchions, and grab irons color changed
Small texture fixes (green MU covers, etc)
Blue tint added to walkways

Just copy the files into the engine file structure and it should work.[/b]
