Excellent news, Tori! And a pretty exciting screen shot too!

These Berkshires/Kanawhas are such fascinating engines. So tall, so powerful. They have a fascinating history too: http://www.steamlocomotive.com/berkshire/

Thanks!
Michael

Will this be freeware.

I hope it will since obviously it was posted in the Freeware Add-On Releases section.

Can't wait to get it, even better if it has a cab view. A American freeware locomotive for Railworks would probably finally get the ball rolling. !**conf**! !**conf**! !**conf**! !!*ok*!!

Everyone please thank Rick Grout for this free custom repaint of the G-Trax Berkshire (required base model available from Railworks DLC). On the C&O, 90 of these well-liked powerhouses were named the K-4 Class Kanawha (kuh-naw-wa) and was among the last steam locomotives purchased by the C&O between 1943-1947. Affectionately known among its drivers as a "Big Mike", it was used in all forms of mainline freight and passenger service. For operating at night during the period of hectic railroad traffic of WWII and heading up many passenger runs, the front number boards (4) are lighted along with the 3 headlights making it easily identifiable.
Created for distribution with the C&O Alleghany route, Rick modified the face of the G-Trax NKP Berkshire to match the special configuration of the Kanawha and did a beautiful job with the paint, letters, and numbers. On the Kanawha, the main headlight is lowered and a slightly decorative number plate placed on the front of the boiler for the C&O design. Among other small modifications, I think the look and lettering of the tender sides and back are excellent also. The Big Mikes appeared in both yellow and white paint; I suspect the latter was the result of C&O renumbering. I chose white because it greater distinquishes it from the Berk when run together (C&O later inherited Berks from Pere Marquette). Pictured here as the 2789 (the number is user changable), this unit depicts the very last steam locomotive ever overhauled at the Clifton Forge shops. They were all retired as of 1957.

Release is planned for early May as the beta 4 version of the C&O Alleghany is released. Please note that you must own the G-Trax NKP Berkshire for this repaint to work.

Looking good. Now if only that bell was centered between the number boards like in the above railpictures photo. Haha, just nit-picking. !**duh*!!

THAT's what it is.... I kept looking up there at the number boards thinking something didn't look right.... thanks for solving that puzzle for me. !DUH!

I'll leave it up to Rick if he wants to move that or not. I only asked if I could share a simple repaint but he wouldn't have it... insisted that it had to look like the Kanawha design so he moved some things around. He's really cool. I'm more than happy with what he's done for me for free, so I'm not gonna bug him about it. !*cheers*!

Great news!!!

Is it safe to assume the loco will also work with the model bought direct from G-max?

Looking forward to your next release.

Thanks,
JackD

LOL, you mean, "G Trax" !**duh*!!

Yes, it will. I got my Berkies from G Trax and this reskin will work just fine. !!*ok*!!

All right, Tori. You been asking for this loco for quite a while for the C&O route. Now, all we need is a few scenarios for it. Maybe hauling some logs? !*brav*!

No no, Chris.... this is a pacifier. The golden prize will be a Class H-8 2-6-6-6 Allegheny! *!!wink!!*

Am glad ya'll like my new wheels. Yep, am already working up some scenario ideas; Michael's newest boxcars (the one with the high-brake wheel) will be one star in that show. I'm looking for cars to match it.
