Freeware MSTS Steam Loco Conversions!

Unread postby ironcat60 » Mon Aug 13, 2018 1:59 pm

Hey there Folks!

I was going through my flash drives and found this RWP file. If I remember right it was given to me by a fellow veteran who gave me some CNW FOG Charts. He was closing up his MSTS site and wanted someone to pass on his work. He has since passed away himself.

So this file will install to MSTS and Conversions. Just click those boxes on the Provider/Product Flyout.

These are steam locomotives and passenger sets. They look okay and I operated some so they respond to key commands not so much for "on screen grabbing".

I have posted these on my MediaFire account for right now and am going to ask the Admin at Railworks America to permanently add them to the File Library.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/u0blm28q9 ... s.rwp/file

Just click on the above link. Do not copy and past you will get a error. I scanned these with Avast and SpyBot and found nothing malicious.

Here is the Hudson type locomotives. You steam folks know this better than myself.

To all community members reading this post. This link will remain for six (6) months then will be terminated.

After a career of living in and enforcing rules in the military I do not flagrantly violate established rules. I do however believe in initiative and have cemented in my personality a belief in the statement of "when in the absence of orders or clear directives, a course of action, any action, is far better than doing nothing".

That is what lead me to post this link without fully understanding their position on such matters. By the grace of the administration this post will remain for a limited time where upon by my decision alone I will terminate this link and ask that this post be deleted.

I'm just curious, was there a problem with you posting this? I can only assume it has something to do with getting the original creator's permission to post their work, "if" the person whom converted all of these is not the original creator.

It's a shame because I have had the MSTS Conversions installed for a long while now and there are some good locomotives included. Not perfect mind you, but considering that you can't get these model's anywhere else, they're good enough. The UP 9000's are the best overall quality-wise. I actually played with the physics on those using the RSC Challenger specs since the real Challenger boilers are based off of the 9000's boilers, and I can haul a very decent train over Sherman Hill or Cajon Pass with them.

So what are you guys saying? These units are for Railworks or are they for MSTS? I have been assuming they are for MSTS. That's why I do not want them. If they are Railworks items I will put them in the library.

I believe they are MSTS ports to RW. I'm not sure if the creator of these had proper permission to recreate these or upload them. They have been around for a while but always clouded in controversy.

They are both conversions to RW. The 4-12-2 was almost certainly with the original author's permission if memory serves me. I can't speak to the other one.

The UP 4-12-2 was probably done by some of the resident creators at Elvas Tower.

I believe the Hudsons were ripped from a commercial MSTS offering by a now defunct studio.

These were originally made for MSTS but then converted to Railworks. There are a number of different locomotives and passenger cars included in the file. Some are decent model's while other's look pretty bad. Just depends on what you want.

I would think that since these were originally made for a now out-of-production game and since the original authors have never recreated them for Railworks themselves And since they are free, where is the harm? Nobody's making any money off of them this way.

But that's just my opinon. You could always post them with a disclaimer stating that if the original authors see them and want them taken down, we could always edit the files to not include those model's. It's your call sir.

P.S.,

Another option would be to open the main file and then re-package and upload each of the model's separately from one-another. That way, people would see all of the different model's and could pick which one's they want, And, if anyone did complain about a certain model, it would be easier to remove just that one file from the library.

Thanks for sharing. I repainted some of the railcars a while back for my personal fun. I was never sure of the status on these and so never shared... I guess if it's free-for-all time, I could share some of them if anyone is interested... Like this one...Image

Cheers

I'd love to see someone convert over some MSTS scenery to work with RW.
