"Free the Freeware" Mod Section

Unread postby SithMurcielago » Sun Feb 16, 2014 2:22 pm

As I stated before I'm going on a campaign to "Free the Freeware." For Starters I'm posting the changes i personally made to the stock that i have to give more realism in my opinion. I encourage others to do that same and share what they have in there labs.

Improved Default NEC Stock

So I decided to have a look around my asset folder for things to fix and came across the default nec stock. I notice the mass were way off. The Amfleets were too Light. i did my researched and changed it. Now the Cars weight between 50-58 tons. This in turn effects wheelship, and adhesion as well it effects the engine's ability to takeoff and stop. Feels alot more realistic.

https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=DDF084B98B650BB1%2145603

Improved Superliners

Much like the NEC stock I changed the weights of the cars to simulate real world values when the cars are loaded. I was back forth between wiki and someone mentioning they were around 80 tons. I decided to go with 80 tons as that sounds much like the real life one. Compare that weight to the Autorack which are around 82 tons and you are on the money. As for the Heritage baggage they weight around 67 tons

Open up RW Tools then open SL Baggage_phII.bin, SL Coach_phII.bin, SL Dining_phII.bin, etc

Find

Code: Select all
<Mass d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="0000000000804C40" d:precision="string">57</Mass>

Replace With:

Code: Select all
<Mass d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="0000000000804C40" d:precision="string">80</Mass>

Save and you are Done. Do this for all Superliners. For the Baggage heritage Change the Mass to 67.

Improved Sounds for Superliners

I used the famous RWSO Sounds as replacements to the sounds I made for the DTM Superliners way before they were released. They didn't come out the way that I hope, but I'm glad I found the RWSO Sounds. They fit perfectly. You can download them from here:

http://www.amicitreni.org/download/comment.php?dlid=812

To Install follow these instructions:

http://ftp.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=314&t=110009

Passenger Occlusion for Superliners

Thanks to Chacal for showing me how to do this. Occlusion is basically how sounds will be muffled from the inside of a Cab or passenger view. This comes in handy if you plan on using the RWSO Sounds for the superliners.

To Use follow here

Super Elevation for Cajon Pass

I downloaded some modifications for Cajon Pass to improve the default one. I started with Hack's Scalerail Conversion & than Bermendez's Super Elevation & Modifications. However one overwritten the other so I couldn't get the benefit of both. That is no longer an issue. Follow on how too:

First Download and Install Scalerail Conversion of the Cajon Pass here:

http://www.3dtrains.com/forums/index.ph ... ajon-pass/

Next Download and install Ferrosim Improvements here:

viewtopic.php?f=30&t=6422

I would do it in this order as I'm not sure if Hack did anything else with the route besides adding the scalerail. Once you done that you will notice that the default tracks are restored over the Scalerail version. Not to fear thats where I come in. My change puts the Scalerail tracks back and keep the superelevation and mods of ferrosim.

https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=D ... B1%2145604

To install you will need to go into Content/Routes and find the route folder. The clone that the Scalerail install made is label 8b13bfc9-83c3-4f3e-93a0-0e05c187fdeb. I'm not sure what the default one is. The best way to find out is to look in Routeproperties.xml and look for the name of the route. Once you find that you can either use the clone or the default its your choice. Extract the file into Networks and overwrite. You are done.

Northeast Corridor Revamp

I started this as an open project and I think its fair to say its going well. If you want a better NEC Follow this thread for download and instructions:

ScaleRail Route Conversions

I did these some time ago. I converted most of my default routes to scalerail as well as a few payware. You must have the freeware Scalerail for this to work. Follow the instructions below:

Donner Pass

Follow the first instructions and paste the ScaleRail track folder to: RSC/DonnerPass/RailNetwork/Track

Route folder Name: 00000032-0000-0000-0000-000000000000

Download and Extract to Network Folder

That Skydrive file is not available anymore. Can you provide a new link?

Your release of ScaleRail conversions is in conflict with my license. Please remove those routes which compete with my own releases. *!rolleyes!*

I am requesting that you remove the Pacific Surfliner conversion, else you will kill-off any future freeware participation from me, including further development in RCAP. If you really want to see freeware flourish, then I suggest that you not ignore me here or in PM. !*not-ok*!

In the future please check the dates on post before you reply with idle threats. My conversions have been up for more than a month now, and since I haven't been on RWA or Train simming for that period of time since. As far as competing with your releases, last time I checked these are listed as "Free" as stated by you with your own scalerail. I see its easy to rip people off who aren't that knowledgeable when it comes to things like CONVERSIONS, but as simple as they are I don't take pleasure in taking advantage of their lack of knowledge as some people do, but I educate them in the hopes they will contribute to the train sim community in some form or fashion.

Right now I have half the mind to put up my newly updated PS conversions and any other and post the tutorial on how to do these easy conversions right now. Lets see how your profit margins fair on that one.

I hadn't seen your posting until the other day, and my PM to you went unanswered, even though I showed that the PM had been read by you and that it took at least 3-hours (just today) for you to post the above garbage. Since you failed to respond in any fashion, I took it to mean that you didn't give a rat's a$$ about considering other's wishes on how things are to be distributed. My license doesn't specifically state that you cannot do conversions, but it does state that I can make changes at any time. You should have realized your conversion was in conflict, if not, then you're dumber than you make yourself out to be. At the very least you could have removed the download and be done with it, but no, you gotta' run your mouth, spewing nonsense and excuses.

As for idle threats, I'm done with freeware. I can see you don't care what I do, and also that no one else seems to either.

Ripped-off? That's a laugh. Last time I checked it was I who put the long ours into creating the track in the first place, never mind the hours spend getting things working in Pacific Surfliner. If you felt so strongly about this then you wouldn't even use the track - why not create your own, or do you prefer to freeload off the backs of others?

Sorry buzz, but it went to PM without reply hence my post. It's obvious that some people's children just don't know how to function in society. *!rolleyes!*

Perhaps if you use any kind of brain cell you claim to have, perhaps you would maybe would have thought, hmmm this person could have seen my PM but can't respond right away because he has a life that doesn't revolve around playing trains all day and has a job. I don't think that cross your mind at all. I'm well within my right not to respond if i don't want too.

However the fact, if you had looked way earlier I was more than nice enough to take down the PS conversion off of one of my post in the interest of being nice, but you decided to post another B.S. message now threatening to what? Run away? Now you get a temper tandem and blame not just me but everyone for not caring about what you do when no one has said anything of the sorts?

Who is the child now? Have a Nice Day!

Ha thats a good one. As if your hours spent doing exactly what I did was anymore or or less important in what I did to get all those things and more working. Then again like I said before weren't you the one that release Scalerail as freeware? Or maybe I was seeing things. In the future try not to release freeware and then turn around and start charging people to use it.

Buzz sorry for this but that needed to be said and I don't care what the fallout will be.
