My mistake in my previous post... DLC CN SD40-2 pack has its own \Audio folder, so I had to copy and paste simer4 files into CN folder in order to get the new sounds, it worked except for the new horn (needing to edit the engine bin, probably). I also copied the new simulation file into the \Simulation CN folder. I´ll check the new horn issue...

I think... you should just have to replace the audio blueprint file itself ( the .bin file in the audio folder ), which should then go and look for all the other audio files in the default SD40 location.

Hi Kali,
Thank you for the info. Not having a lot of experience with the sound files I went ahead and moved all of the current files to a backup folder. Next I copied the
    Class SD40 Coupling.proxybin
    Class SD40 Coupling.proxyxml
    Class SD40.proxybin
    Class SD40.proxyxml
    SD40 Engine Sound.bin
Files from the Kuju Audio folder for the SD40-2 to the RSC Donner Pass SD40-2 Audio folder. When into the sim and sure enough all sounds were working except the bell. I then copied the T_AIR_Bell.dav from my backup folder and I now have a bell as well.

Regards,
Rich S.

Yeah, you probably don't even need to copy the proxyxml files either - the .bin files will be looking in the default SD40 folder. Well, you might not have a bell that way, but it's probably worth attempting anyway.

Actually, the audio is read from the XML files, not the bin files. You can delete the bin files with no problem at all. The only bin file you can't delete is the SD40 Engine Sound Bin.

The engine blueprint points at one of the bin files, which points at the proxyxml ( as far as I'm aware anyway, I doubt that changed since I poked around last ). If there's more seperate audio children then they'll have seperate bin files also.

Absolutely fabulous sounds! Thank you so much, for me the sound is just as important as the graphics. I can't wait for your next project. You should be part of the RW team along with Krellnuts, his wagon sound also make the game!

On a side note, I'm having some issues with sounds in the sim. If I get close to the lead engine in the Donner Route it doesn't have any sound. I also notice if I go to the view from the very front of the engine outside, I have no engine sound until I look back. This also happens in Castle Rock and maybe others, I haven't tried it. Is this My issue or an issue in the game. Also, could you explain where to go to modify the start up and shutdown time? Thanks.

If you are using my simulation file, then the times should be correct. I have noticed on most videos of my pack, that these times aren't right. I don't understand. It works fine on my end. !*don-know!* But if you want to change the timings, then run the "SD40-2 Engine Simulation" file (Assets/Kuju/RailSimulatorUS/RailVehicles/Diesel/SD40-2/Default/Simulation) through serz.exe (main Railworks folder, or open with RWTools), open the .xml file in wordpad, search for Startup Time. There will be the two values, Startup Time and Shutdown Time. Adjust accordingly.
They exist everywhere. You may not see them, but they're there. Awww yeeeaaaahhhh, 20% Cooler! /)

Not just you, it's same for me as well. Even with these new sound packs, seems that RSC made the lead locomotive silent in a multi lashup. And as you said, not just Donner either. I noticed it on Ohio Steel 2 as well. !*not-ok*!

Nope, not silent. What you're getting is the interference from 5 different samples all playing exactly together, and it sounds like the front one is dead because overall the sound is in the middle of the lashup. As I mentioned a few posts ago, a tiny tweak and I can hear all mine perfectly.

Usual making change & not thinking things through completely issue, unfortunately - RSC need to add a little randomness. What changed with RW3 is all engines looking after themselves, but unfortunately as it's a computer they all look after themselves identically.

So long as the sound pack is installed correctly into the default Kuju folder structure, it should be (relatively!) very easy to alias the sounds to the new sounds. You need to change the path in the Donner's engine bin file, so it looks like this in these three sections:

Code: Select all

Thanks for all your help on this, one other question, the sound pack works great on all my SD-40's except for the SF SD40-2 Pack that I have installed. I tried installing the sounds in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\RSC\SD40HnPack01 directory and the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\RSC\SD40SfPack01directory. The engine sounds worked, but then I had no bell or horn. Any ideas? Thanks.
