Thanks! Doing came as an epiphany. I thought "Wow! Why didn't I think of that!" Stereo sounds don't have the Doppler Effect right? Well neither do echoes in real life! I coupled the sound of an Leslie Supertyfon RS3K echo and a close up of the same horn for uniformity, modified the horn .proxyxml accordingly, and BAM, that's what you get. A horn that sounds right. By this I mean the Doppler Effect of the non-echoed sound closer up, and a realistic echo without Doppler the result is very realistic. Cool approach to that idea with the mono/stereo sounds! Never would have thought of that. RSC should hire you.

BTW, its amazing how much immersion your SD40 sounds add to Railworks. Thanks!

Set PitchShiftVariation to 0.1 for any looping sample that it wasn't set for... boy did that make a difference, you can distinctly hear every engine when there's a bunch together. Sounds are a little muffled with ALchemy enabled for some reason... well muffled is probably the wrong word, a bit quiet, distant, silenced, understated... something like that. Still awesome though.

Very interesting Kali...that makes life easier than editing actual sound files! At least in theory.

It's either that or making a list of random ones in the sound config, and I'm not sure you can do that for loops anyway.

The two are separate files: echoes and main horn sound file.

Are you going to do anything for the ES44?

Yup, complete redesign of all the sounds to my todays standards.

Hi Simer4,
Very nice updated for the default SD40-2 :) Is there any chance you could also do the same for the RSC SD40-2 and SD40T-2's that are part of the RSC Donner Pass route?

Regards,
Rich S.

As far as I noticed, being in the \Audio folder (instead of especific engine folder) it works for any SD40 (at least for all six RSC defaults), that's the idea. At least it happened with several SD40-2s I played (or tested) so far.

OK, I just want to be sure of what I'm supposed to do here with regards to non-default SD40's. As I understand it, I copy the Audio folder into each of the RSC DLC folders. What about the RailVehicle folder - do I copy it too? The ReadMe talks about editing the .bin file to change two parameters. Do I do that instead of copying the RailVehicle folder? If so, do I update the tunnel motor by just copying the Audio folder and editing the T-2 .bin file? I am assuming that re-paints will automatically pick up the changes. I just don't want to screw things up to the point that I have to back everything out or verify cache.

Thanks in advance for clarifying this for me.

Don
