The Berk really isn't freeware however, you have to have the original in order for it to work, if you don't it won't work.

The old saying, it's half freeware, half payware because it won't run without owning the original.

...Edit...

It appears I might have been wrong, I removed the original Berkenshire files from my Steam folder momentarily and it worked, when I expected it to not work.

Do you mean having the RW&A route or the berk pack?

The Berkshire DLC is required to use the Pere Marquette version of the Berk.
As I understand it, the PM was primarily intended as an addon for the Lakeside route. Then was updated to make it available for other routes.

Same here.Don't have the berk, but still is perfectly fine.Cause if it were a repaint,it would have been in gtrax, not RWA.I check the path for it and it's under RWA...

And may I just remind us all not to get off topic?

The RWA Berk in the Lakeside section is FREEWARE. As is everything else in there. You do have to purchase the Lakeside Route to get the route, not the BERK. It is an older version of the model that Rick Grout gave to us.

Then it is a full independent model. A real freeware steam locomotive.

I guess this sort of counts but do you think the "BR Castle Class Double Chimney" from DTG's TS rewards count? The code is free for everyone who has TS 2016,their copy just needs to be registered to get it?

I still like the Chinese steam locos that were free years back... http://railworks.banal.net/catalog/pages/China-Steam.html . I tried to find them on uktrainsim but they don't seem to be there anymore... There are more links on here if you search "QianJin 7014".... some links in the thread seem to be dead but some seem to still go places....
Good luck !*salute*!

Same how I understood it, but it appears I was wrong.

The G-Trax Berkshire is NOT required for this to work. It is a stand alone free steam locomotive.
