Workshop Scenario - Green Coal

Unread postby thecanadianrail » Thu Jun 13, 2013 11:48 am

I have just released a Burlington Northern era scenario for the Marias Pass route on the steam workshop. The scenario takes you on the last part of your run for the day from Blackfoot to Summit where you will have a crew change. Your trip started earlier in the day at Great Falls so you are getting tired but at least the traffic is fairly light and you don't need to stop anymore until summit. At Blackfoot you have just picked up a helper set to assist your train with the large grades ahead. The train may take off fairly fast on the flat grades but once you hit the steep hills you will notice how hard the locomotives are working!

Your motive power: 7 SD40-2's - 5 at the head end and 2 on the rear as your helper set making 21000 horsepower
Your load: 105 loaded 100t aluminum coal gondolas

Needed addons: Marias Pass, SD40-2 pack, GP38-2 pack

Have fun and please report any bugs here!

I will be uploading a modified version of the scenario utilizing 3rd party addons and repaints which the workshop cannot accept. it will take a little time and im quite busy today with other things. I will see if I can get some stuff done on the RWA version tonight.

Hi, Bob. I, too, have started placing my scenarios on the Workshop instead of uploading them here. Why don't I do both. Probably, it's sheer laziness. On the Workshop, I don't have to save an RWP file, write a nonsense-filled read-me file, and save both of those plus a screenshot or three into a ZIP file before the job is done. In addition, I enjoy some of the feedback that comes to me via Workshop (note the word some: typically inane comments also tend to appear.

I'm not suggesting that you change the upload process here, just putting in my **!!2cents!!** .

That whole process takes about five minutes after you have done it a couple of times. Furthermore with all due respect, if you spent as much time as I have and continue to do, giving help out to people about how to do things you wouldn't call the read me files nonsense filled except when sometimes the authors decide to fill them with nonsense.

After having made a few scenarios for the workshop I have come to the conclusion that the workshop is great for low information simmers who prefer nothing but vanilla.
RSC considers anything and I mean anything that is not on their DLC list is considered third party content and will not be uploaded. Also I have found that if you make
modification using RW Tools, RSC automatically considers the scenario to contain third party content and will not allow it to be uploaded.
The scenarios that I write for the RWA are for the adults in the room who don't mind going the extra mile to locate the assets needed to make the scenario a thoroughly
enjoyable experience.

My 2.3775 cents... **!!2cents!!**

I create for both NERW (in my case) and the Workshop if I can. An example is my 'The Long Run' series for the Maria Pass that can be found on the NERW website and on the Workshop. The NERW version uses some NERW stock, the workshop version just uses default MP stuff. Once I have the NERW scenario, it is not much work to replace the NERW stuff (by hand in the scenario, not by using RWTools) and publish it to the Workshop. All I have to make sure about is that I don't leave any of the old DLC's active, like Kuju.

I have enjoyed many scenario's from the workshop, and from RW. And I have to give a big THANK YOU, to all the creators.
There's always something different in each one and it sure beats running a route with no other trains in it.
You folks have added hours of interest to RW and can only see better and bigger things coming in the future. !*salute*!
Thanks

Well after seeing how some people on steam reply to how "horrible" I am at scenario writing because I messed up on a waypoint which makes you get a red X at the end of the scenario I have decided to do more scenarios for RWA and less for the workshop. I am working on fixing up the scenario for RWA right now (I have been sick with the flu the past few days so I haven't done too much on the pc) and hopefully will have it uploaded tonight!

It's very easy to make small mistakes in RW that show up as big errors in the game. Keep on working and developing your craft. I've been working off and on for about six weeks on some scenarios. It's not easy.

It's way too easy to be critical when someone can't give you a good punch if you get too obnoxious.

He makes it sound as people said he was horrible at it by putting in quotes but why does he not just copy and paste the whole thing then quote it because no one said he was horrible at it. matter of fact it says it was a good scenario except for the fact that you cannot finish it without getting an x and that "I" felt like I wasted my time playing it because "I" could not finish it successfully and would be happy to retry it when it was fixed. He just ignored that part and did nothing to fix it.

So if you want to punch me for his misquote then fine punch me for it I do not care!

!!bang!! there you go !*roll-laugh*! (had to for the moment) but anyway lets just leave it as where it is, it will be uploaded to RWA and that's that.

Anyways all I am just waiting for is the repaint of the ATSF caboose into BN and the scenario will be ready to be packaged up for uploading.

The scenario will require the following:

Marias Pass
SD40-2 BN pack
GP38-2 pack
GP38-2 Whiteface late repaint
BN Heritage Boxcar pack
GSC flatcars (NW)
GSC bulkhead flatcars (NW)
BN Repaint of Ce-1 Class caboose
