UPP Excursion Water Tenders

Unread postby TheRailfan98 » Sat Sep 19, 2015 4:34 pm

Got another repaint set coming soon, this time the ex-GTEL water tenders UP uses on excursions with 844, 3985, and soon probably 4014. Included will be UPP809 and UPP814. Due to the tender sides being mirrored I cannot add the "Jim Adams" and "Joe Jordan" lettering to them or create 814's up to date livery, so the pre-rebuild versions with "UNION PACIFIC" on the side are included (814 is only in this version, while 809 has both the flag and old livery). These require the UP Gas Turbine from TS2016. Should be up by the end of the week hopefully, so here's a few preview shots of them *!!wink!!*

Thanks! I just wish DTG wouldn't take as many shortcuts mirroring textures so I could make 814's current livery and add the names, I know it saves on amount of textures but it get's very annoying when trying to do lettering. Glad you like them though! :D

Great job with these! The water tenders make excellent companions to the UP steam equipment.

I had this idea when I watched DTG's gameplay with the turbine. But when I realized that the tender acted like a steam engine tender,I was wondering how we were to run only one tender! !*don-know!*

Anyways,very good!

The tenders look great, but the scaling is off somewhere with the size ratio to the fef. The aux. tenders are taller than the 844, and this is not the case in real life. even before they were modified to optimum use by the steam program (removal of insulation and heating coils unnecessary turbine stuff etc.) the tallest tender on the train was the steam locomotives' fuel carrying tenders.

here's some pics of what I mean.

I had begun to do a UPP water car myself, but stopped when I saw that DTG were doing the GTEL tender. But having seen this, maybe I ought to have carried on anyway *!rolleyes!*

perhaps you could do what the steam team did in real life and modify the existing tenders? (GTEL) All that really needs to be done to bring them up to the current status is remove the top railings, square up the top corners, add rivets and a bit of apparatus up top, slim it down a bit, and there it is. The trucks are unchanged so in my novice mind of 3d computer modelling, it seems like an easy mod for an expert, but I'm sure it's more complicated than that.

The GTEL tenders were modelled by someone else, not me. I can't do anything with them. I do have all the plans for the updated UPP tenders, so maybe one day I might finish what I started.

In the meantime we will just have to do with what we have. And it's pretty nice.
