Coupling on a curve

How do you get two cars to couple up when one of the vehicles is coming off a curve and doesn't have enough distance for the truck to strainghten out in time for the couplers to line up (they just miss each other so that the knucles never get a chance to couple up.).
I've searched this forum and did not find anything close to this problem.
I've run across this in two different scenarios and don't know what to do about it outside of giving up on the scenario.
Any ideas?
Dave

Can you just push it back until you get to a straight section and then try the back away and couple again?

I don't recall this problem on Railworks (only on Trainz series).
You can try to let the cars touching each other and then use the coupling view of F4 Virtual Console to couple (clicking on the due coupler).
You can also go in-game Options | Gameplay and check "Automatic Coupling" and/or "Coupling Override" boxes.
