Taming Some Black Stallions - Cresson Local Scenario Problem

Unread postby Samwolf » Mon Jan 30, 2012 1:15 pm

Has anyone successfully completed the Taming Some Black Stallions - Cresson Local Scenario from Smitty's Loco Shed? !*don-know!*

After picking up the first consist and then proceeding to "Rev2", my train always derails due to consist tilt, either just before it reaches the marker or after stopping at the marker. This happens no matter how slow I go or how slowly I stop. I tried multiple tries from the beginning of the scenario and from a saves just after picking up the first consist and from saves from just before reaching the "Rev2" marker. !*hp*! **!!bang!!**

Thanks. !*salute*!

This one is frustrating me and I haven't even gotten to the 105 car drag scenario yet. *!!wink!!*

It's an AI collision elsewhere on the track. It says NS4319, which is an autobox train somewhere else. At Long 70.48 and Lat 40.42, I think. The message didn't last long. I'll go into the scenario editor and see where that's at. You're not doing anything wrong. There's an AI train that hits something somewhere else, and that's the problem. I'm sure Doug will put out a fix for it. I'll email him about it.

Those long trains are great, though, aren't they?! I've tried that 105 car drag twice and derailed both times. I've honed my skills since then though, and am ready to give it another try.

Thanks. I think I saw the Ai train derail message come up a couple of times too, usually it's consist tilt though. The wierd one was getting a consist tilt when I had been stopped and just waiting for the task to get checked off.

I love Doug's scenarios, the only other one I had problems with were 2 of the Soo Line scenarios and he got them fixed up.

Well, I ran it again twice and NS4319 seems to hit NS4307 after the first train rounds HSC. 4307 is sitting one track over to the left waiting for its start time I think. I wrote Doug about it.

I can get my train stopped at Rev 2 and connected to the second (third if you count the cars already attached) cut of cars no problem. I'm pretty easy on the throttle. I just play it between 0 and 1 notch to get the whole thing rolling at about 1-2 mph and let them drift for the most part. I wonder if RW is just confused, and giving you a consist tilt error when, really, what is happening is the AI collision...

I do LOVE these long trains!

Hey guys:

Well this is new. I had not had anyone mention this problem until now. Here is what I think happened. The long cars in the rack train combined with the length of the train and the slack action may cause the cars to rock enough that they hit the train just after the curve. If you have any issue like this send me an email and I will send an update to you.

Sorry for any time that was wasted.

Okay, that's weird. The first four or five times I tried it, I hooked up to the last cut of cars at Cresson, after stopping at Rev2, and started moving forward a bit when the AI always crashed. I tried a couple of versions that Doug sent. In the last one, the AI didn't crash, but I've tried it three times and get the consist tilt derailment every time. First, when I let off the brake at Rev2 and started drifting backwards. Second after drifting back a few cars lengths, and this last time after I stop at Rev2 and am just sitting there waiting for the clock to finish the countdown. That's too strange. But that's what was happening to you, right Sam? But the first half dozen times I tried the scenario, I never had a problem stopping at Rev2 and hooking up to the last cut of cars and moving off.

I don't know what to think at this point.

That's exactly what's been happening. I just tried a fix from Doug and I was able to at least get to rev2 and stop but shile waiting for clock to finish I got a consist tilt. I'm going to give it another shot in the morning and see if I can get the stop at rev2 to work properly.

Consist tilt when it comes to the player train is more like "broken coupler". This can happen if you move too fast in one direction or another. When you were stopped at rev 2 it is possible that the rear of the train plowed into the front as your loco was stopped, ya right you say. The best way to avoid this is to apply slight amounts of train or auto brake as you move forward and back or work grades. Use the engines to pull against a minimum reduction as it is called in the real world. This will keep the consist tight and not allow the slack action to push the cars into each other. I know that the TS2012 update added too much slack between the cars and that people now see the consist tilt error message that did not exist before. Myself, I like it this way. This is what makes it tough and even tougher when running long consists. A good customer / friend of mine says that backing up long trains is like backing up a wet noodle. This is true but oh so challenging.

Hmmmm....well, I'm still having trouble with this one. I hooked up all the cars. Just slowed to a stop with a minimal set against notch 1 or 2, and then let the train drift back into the cuts with minimal set, doing a slow release (brake at 28-29%) as necessary to keep the cars moving. Worked great. But as I was heading down the hill for Altoona, under a minimal set, doing about 27mph, just as I passed another coal train heading up the hill, two tracks over, there was another consist tilt, and the cars on both trains tumbled all over the place. I can't see why this would happen. I'd been running down the hill for several miles by that point. I hadn't touched a control for at least 5 minutes.

I love how that long consist of 65 or so cars looked, but they sure are touchy.

There has to be something weird with the Horseshoe route, because this is the only route I get consist tilts on, on a regular basis. Most times there's not even any other consists anywhere near mine, so I know I'm not hitting some nearby cars. **!!bang!!**
