Hey guys. I have a strange problem. On the start page my links to railworks and the BBC etc stopped working. I use ccleaner and wondered if that might have done something? Any help would be much appreciated. And as always thank you.

The whole time I had RW installed, I never had a problem with CCleaner, but I don't run it at default settings.
Looking into what CCleaner has detected, I don't see anything having to do with RW.
Maybe look into your anti-virus, or some other anti-malware utility you run.

Kev, you mean the launch screen with tools and docs and all that stuff? To be honest, I've never clicked on the RW link or the BBC link. I'll check it out later. I just used CCleaner yesterday as well so a good test.

Yes the first one that comes up with the package manager and the news. When I go to the loading page or when a route is loading I can access the railworks and the steam pages from there. I recently put rw 2012 on my laptop so I could show a friend how to put things in and edit rw. At first it connected fine but after I ran ccleaner it stopped working. Strange things these computers can be.

I am using Microsoft essentials as my antivirus so maybe that could be it? Also when running ccleaner I get a multimedia file from steam that I believe it is deleting. I ran the check game files in steam and all files verified so I don't know. I reinstalled win 7 on my desk top but not cleaner and rw links work fine from the fist start page where the links to the BBC and railworks site and the news.

I also use MSE and I haven't found any issue with it and Steam.
I will say that multi-media file CCleaner is picking up sounds a little strange. I've not come across that, but there most likely is three major differences in our systems.
1) I run XP
2) I don't use Windows Media Player (as a matter of fact, I disable it)
3) I don't have Flash Player installed.
You could add that multi-madia file to the exclusion list in CCleaner.
I will say, if you use a utility called 360 Amigo, that one will most assuredly kill your Steam install. Avoid that program at all costs.
I use Glary Utilities, CCleaner, and JVPowerTools on a regular basis and none of the three give me any problems with Steam or RW, and I don't have anything Steam or RW related added to the exclusion list on any of them.
I guess I should also add that I never clicked on that BBC thing. Never had any reason to. I may have to go back to my old hard drive and see if that link works (I don't have RW installed on this hard drive)

I fired up RW on my other hard drive and I was able to click on the BBC link and it worked. This is after running CCleaner, Glory Utilities, and JVPowerTools, and - as I mentioned, I don't have Flash Player installed and have disabled Windows media Player, so I don't have a clue why you can't click on that link.
Unfortunately, Steam doesn't recognize a users default browser so it uses IE

, which - needless to say, took a while to load the page.

Thanks guys,or should I say Hawk man you are the greatest. The problem is that in ccleaner you have to untick the steam media box so as not to delete what made this to happen. the links work on my desktop but I have as yet to figure out how to reinstall them on my laptop. I was hopfull I could find a way without a reinstall but It will not be to hard as that is all I use it for.

Maybe this will help someone.

That's weird. My version install of CCleaner doesn't list the Steam Media at all under Cleaner or Registry. I'm running CCleaner V-3.13.1600

If I recall correctly, doesn't CCleaner make a backup of the registry, or gives you the option to, before making any changes, and also has an option to restore it?
If so, you could restore from an old backup that CCleaner made before you had those troubles, then next time you run CCleaner, be sure to exclude some entries from the list of what entries it will clean/fix/remove.

Yes, it does give you the option to back up, but only with the registry cleaner. Not with the regular cleaner option.
