After I press "Start," I get the following error messages in sequence. I am currently "Validating Steam Files." Does anyone have help?

Thanks for your help, Marc. I don't really know how to determine my system specs, so this is the closest I could find.

Hi Harry,

I don't see your video card listed. Do you happen to know the manufacturer and model?

It's an ATI Radeon 9500.

Look in the folder Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\dev\Shaders for the file MLAA.fx. If it's not there, reinstall Railworks/TrainSimulator from Steam.

Alternative... this is just a long shot: go to the folder Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Install\DirectX9 and run (execute) the file DXSETUP.EXE

I tried several fixes from Railworks America and my install will still not run. However, the error message has changed to:

RS_TXT_WRAPPER_SETTINGS_NO_PS_3_0

Edit - One other note, when Railworks updated on my office computer, it reinstalled MS NetX and several other components. It didn't do that with my home computer that is experiencing the problems.

If you go to the folder Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Install you'll see there are some more executables there (dotNetFx40.... PhysX_9.10....., etc). Run each of those also (like you did the DXSetup).

If none of this works, I don't know what else to do but write RSC or delete your Steam folder entirely and reinstall from scratch. I don't think many of us users know exactly what those error messages mean, and the one's you're getting are very unusual.

Harry, it looks to me that your graphics card is not Pixel Shader 3.0 compatible. Others have reported the same error message.

RW2 only required Pixel Shader 2 compatibility. RW3 requires Pixel Shader 3 compatibility. As Trevor mentioned, it looks like your vid card doesn't support Shader 3, as hinted at in the error message.

Thanks for all the help guys. After scanning all the major forums, I believe your analysis is correct. I've tried every thing suggested but no joy. I don't even think my old, old computer will handle a video card that is powerful enough, so I will be a spectator for a while. But, I am starting to save for a new machine today. Thanks again for all the help, not just today, but over the course of Railworks. It's been fun.

Can you run the sim with the TSX engine deactivated?

No, I tried deactivating the TSX engine too. If I deactivae TSX, I just get a different set of error messages.
