Beginner Issues

I literally bought the game a week ago so I'm still in the "mucking-around, watching-tutorials" stage and my big score for today was, oh wow, I can set Level to any "level"! !*YAAA*!

1) How do I connect two separate sections of track? The Join Tool isn't an option because it repositions entire segments of track and causes a new break in the track somewhere else. (I was laying sections of road at one point and had no problem with that because the linear object tool "snapped" to both the separate sections of roadway I wanted to connect. Shouldn't it work the same way for train tracks?)

2) Is it better to use one giant decal-thing for water, or multiple smaller ones? I'm just wondering about the impact on frames per second. If there's a difference. Because I have this idea...involving a swamp....

3) Is there any way to scale assets larger/smaller from inside the route editor? I'm thinking in terms of trees, buildings, etc. What used to be called "static meshes" in UnReal Ed (the editor for Unreal Tournament) I guess because the models are "static."

4) Can anyone give me a hint about how "fall-off" affects the terrain editing tool. I'm probably just being dense but mucking around with this variable isn't making things any clearer. !DUH!

1. on the bottom left flyout you will see a button that says snap to track, this should solve the problems that you are having. if you are having troubble using it let us know.

2. try and use the biggest decals as possible, less objects means higher framerates although a water decal woulden't be a big deal if you had many in a certan area.

3. no there is not

4. i am not exactly shure what fall-off you are talking about, is it for using the paint tool or the terrain tool

Thanks for answering!

Well, yeah, still having trouble with connecting separate segments of track, even with Snap turned on. I ran into the problem again when trying to connect the lead into a turntable to the spur from the rest of the yard. I seem to get one of 3 results: 1) the track snaps like it should, 2) it doesn't, or, 3) it creates a switch/turnout and then I have to muck about deleting short segments of track which might or might not be visible, while checking to see if I can Weld or not. To be honest, I'm guessing the tools are all working as they're designed to function, but they're a little fussy about how things are lined up and I'm still in the process of learning how to deal with that. It almost seems like it might be easier in some cases to link two track segments by deliberately creating a turnout, and then deleting the part that's not needed.

As for the "fall-off" I meant the terrain tool, but I just found the answer to that in Creator's Manual pdf (which I had stumbled over at some point but then couldn't remember where the heck I had seen it).

!*salute*!
