Program Crashes When Selecting "RailVehicles" Under MaineLines

Unread postby Minneapolitan » Sat Sep 09, 2023 5:45 pm

This has been happening for a while, before the big update earlier this year in Spring 2023. I'm just now addressing my issue.

Every single time when I'm in the Scenario Editor and checking the boxes for what groups of rolling stock I want to be using, checking the box for "RailVehicles" after choosing "MaineLines" causes the entire program to freeze. Even opening Task Manager doesn't work and I almost have to completely restart my laptop to get the program to finally close and I must open Train Sim all over again.

But what's weird is that this happened randomly. Nothing out of the ordinary happened when this problem first occurred. I used to use everything under "MaineLines" (boxcars, cement hoppers, etc) and given the wide variety of excellent repaints, it's extremely frustrating to lose them.

Anyone ever seen this? How might this be mended?

They are all working here. Just tested some of them. Are you having a problem with all of them or which ones have you tested?

It's ONLY when selecting "RailVehicles" under MaineLines. Everything else is working top-notch per usual, such as "G-Trax," "GreatNortherner," "Minerman," etc.

"RailVehicles" is the only box to check when selecting MaineLines. As far as I know, that's what ought to be appearing. Would I be wrong? I'm really at a loss...

Hi,

Maybe a file somehow got corrupted in that folder. I don't know if or how that could even happen to rolling stock, but the symptoms sounds somewhat familiar to what happens when the Workshop installer corrupts a scenario file while installing.

I'd recommend deleting the whole MaineLines folder (or moving it outside of your Railworks folder temporarily) and then re-installling all the cars from their original file library downloads? If this fails to have an effect, you could repeat this process but install the cars one by one (or in small batches), testing them in-game after each new installation. Maybe there's just one broken repaint/model in there which you could filter out that way.

Cheers,
Michael

It all works fine for me - I recommend what Michael suggests. It certainly looks like a corrupted/incomplete file. I use MaineLines every day on any and all routes I am working on scenarios for.

Check your PM

You could try my package from 2021:
https://railworksamerica.com/index.php/ ... k-repaints
This replaces all waggon blueprints of your installed cars. Newer cars not, of course.

Thanks all. I'm not one to diagnose computer issues but my hunch is that Michael is right. Somewhere, somehow, something got corrupted. I followed your advice and just deleted the whole thing. John was a massive help in getting it all back. Any idea what can be done to prevent such a thing in the future? I suppose backing up everything to a separate folder is in order, but I wonder what could be done to prevent this in the first place...

I keep all my third party/repaint downloads (unzipped) on a separate drive sub divided into regions and then sub divided into suppliers/developers. I can then always find (eventually!!) those I am missing/corrupted.
e.g. Downloads\NorthAmerica\GreatNortherner or Downloads\NorthAmerica\Buzz etc.

It's the Clear Tracks one. From my stored files. You want it?
