"Out of Memory"

Unread postby railduffer » Tue Aug 01, 2023 2:56 pm

On the route of my design, which I have been using for few years now, I have run into a problem. Sometimes, when I add an asset to the route, or just change something Railworks crashes and the bulletin comes up and says "out of memory". So I added memory. I now have 40 GB, and still have the same problem. As before the assets have somehow changed, so I copied the assets back to my route. Everything is good again. Later, maybe next day, it happens again. Is there something in my route or my assets that is causing the problem? This does not happen with other (Train Simulator) routes. Please help!

It is not the physical size of installed memory, only memory allocation issue within the game. This has been an ongoing issue for quite some time probably since the 64 bit edition was launched. There seems to be no definitive solution to this. A workaround that I use is to use F2 (save) often. Try not to move a lot of assets at a time such as long consists and clear cache occasionally between editing sessions. Others may have a solution that works for them. I can say this that since upgrading from a 1060 6GB GPU to a 3060 12GB GPU I have far less of these than I used to.

AmericanSteam is 100%. I had this issue a lot with editing or creating my own routes as well a while back, however for me once the 32 bit and 64 bit edition became an option, I noticed that when ever I would run a scenario or edit a route etc.. 90% of the time it would crash. If I did the same running it in 64 bit it would only happen every now and then, so I would recommend choosing the 64 bit option. Also to note that some older assets being used 3rd party particularly tend to not agree within the game for whatever reason sometimes. Unfortunately there is no real true fix to this and if so I am not aware.

I also use a program from IOBIT called Advanced system care that has a little gadget called Maximum Performance Monitor. It cleans your RAM so along with hitting the F2 button frequently I have mostly (not completely) eliminated game crashes when route building or making up consists.
