DTM DL-109 Headlight

Unread postby miata54 » Wed May 03, 2023 2:03 pm

Don't know if there is any casusal relationship here or not with the TSC Core Update, but now the headlight on my 109 will not light up at all, with either input from the Railworks UI Menu {clicking on the headlight icon} or
by the switch on my Raildriver. Nothing. If you have the DTM DL-109, could you let me know if your headlight works on this model? Have done a Verify files rebuild via Steam on this loco with the same results. No headlight.

It works here using either the HUD command or the keyboard "h". It is not working with the switch in the cab. I don't recall if it ever did tho. Not sure I ever used it. All the other switches in the cab seem to work.

I've attached a pic of the files inside the Lights folder. Does yours look the same? Should there be a texture file in here?

Hi,

I've just tested this quickly in my copy of pre-update TS and in that the headlight on the DL-109 can be toggled just fine with the in-cab switch and also the HUD. Maybe it's another victim of the script changes with the core update that the cab switch apparently no longer works. !*don-know!*

The Lights folder looks okay to me, as far as I can tell. There aren't supposed to be any textures in there as those light emitter blueprints (the light cones that illuminate the scene) are all handled by the game engine directly.

Cheers,
Michael

Thanks Mike. The Verify files I did was only done by selective DLC. I'll try a complete uninstall/reinstall of RW regarding your comment about emitters and the game engine.

Are headlight flares turned on in settings?

Yes. All other loco lights work. This has me completely baffled. I did a format/reinstall of Windows 10 and a clean install of Steam and TSC and still the light won't light. All my settings are the same as they have been for years. Has anyone done a DLC verify for just this loco lately? I'm wondering if a recent change was made to the loco files by DTM?
I forgot to mention that the interior cab light works. Just not the headlight.

Hi,

This is indeed baffling. One thing we haven't compared yet is which of the many DL-109s we're actually talking about. Maybe Buzz and I just got lucky and found one that isn't affected, whereas you may be using another one?

My latest test with the DL-109 in updated TS (64-bit standard version):
- Quick Drive on B&A
- consist "DL-109 Green and Gold + Green Consist"
- headlight (both light cone and flare effects) can be toggled just fine with H-key, F4-HUD button, and in-cab headlight switch
- I haven't done a verify files for TS in ages, but then if there had been an update to the DL-109 recently I'm sure Steam would have installed it

Do the headlights work for you if you run the same consist in a QD?

Cheers,
Michael

Thanks Mike for your input.
Makes no difference whether it is any QD consist or fron a scenario. Interestingly, the headlight on the FA-1 works just fine from both the keyboard and the Raildriver. The puzzling thing about this is the headlight on the 109 did work prior to reinstallation of Windows and TSC via Steam. Every other loco I have in TSC responds to the keyboard "H" command or the F4 HUD click on the headlight Icon. As mentioned before, the Cab light works, but not the headlight. Go figure!

P.S. I just looked at the Headlight BIN files in the Lights folder and it shows the designation for the headlight as a SD45. Now, I can not find an SD45 as an Asset anywhere in my Assets folder. It is possible I missed it somewhere? Where would I find an SD45 loco or am I barking up the wrong tree!!

Hi,

One thing just occured to me: I'm not using the actual Steam version in my tests of this engine, but instead the final release candidate that I received from Mannu directly. All the files are unpacked (no .ap) and I can't guarantee that there aren't any differences between mine and the final release version on Steam. My test results might be totally unreliable.

Headlight BIN files in the Lights folder and it shows the designation for the headlight as a SD45

I presume you mean this part of the light .bins: <English d:type="cDeltaString">Fwd_Headlight_000_SD45</English> -- in which case that's just the display name for the blueprint which has no effect on its use by the engine. There aren't any file/path references in the light bin itself at all and, as far as I can tell, the engine .bins all link to their own DL109 folders.

Cheers,
Michael
