Ohio Steel 2 Assets Not Appearing in Editor

Unread postby Minneapolitan » Mon Jun 13, 2022 9:07 pm

I just bought the Ohio Steel 2 route...for its assets more than the route itself so I may use them in a route I'm building.

When in the route editor, either in the route I'm building OR Ohio Steel 2 itself, all structures from this route appear on the appropriate lists (Industry, Clutter, Miscellaneous, etc.) EXCEPT the steel mill structures.

Assets from ALL sources have been selected on the right-hand fly-out. Ohio Steel 2's assets appear under "RG[...]" or "rg_[...]," perfectly fine. But all the steel mill structures are missing from these lists! And it's JUST the steel mill assets. I've looked literally everywhere. No blast furnace, no coking plant, no sintering plant, no rolling or slabbing mills....nothing. They're not there on the lists.

To be clear, the steel mill structures appear in the Ohio Steel 2 route - just not on the lists of structure assets. And having these structures is literally the only reason why I paid $24.99.

What's going on? What else must I do? I've done everything right on my end.

Rich Garber was very possessive with his assets and used codes to “hide” their identities. Load up the route and then in World Editor fly over the assets you want to identify and click on the individual items and in the right hand flyout box the identity will come up. Write it down every irritating letter and number. You can then find in the list of assets the code, click on the .bin file and find out what he called it. This is the only way I have found.

"Rich Garber was very possessive with his assets and used codes to “hide” their identities." Rich was a early contributor,(Along with Sniper) for routes and provided tons of assets to one and all. He chose to lock out some of his more recent buildings at his own decision. Had I known that Ohio Steel locked the best building assets, I too would have not purchased it. What made this sim great was the willingness of creators sharing their talents with others for the sheer enjoyment of running routes.
Thanks to all for the excellent, creative, and enjoyable assets offered to all. Free of charge.

I was not in any way being critical of Rich Garber. I purchased all of his RW/TS routes and regularly, even now, run on the early ones as much as Fort Smith etc.. I was merely explaining why his assets which are there, are so difficult to identify for use in other routes. I use his assets for my own use on occasion, never for anything I would or have published without due credit and permission.

When in the route editor for Ohio Steel 2, I double-clicked on the coke ovens as the first attempt. Indeed, the info in the flyout says: Scenery~buildings~1_2000_z4pt0fjwpo77jg.xml .

But then...RailWorks > Assets > Allaboard > Trackplans > Scenery > Buildings ...

Screenshot Ohio Assets 1.JPG

It's all the usual stuff. BUT there's nothing even close to what's above in red. As I scroll down that list shown in my screenshot, everything else is 1_2000_rg_[...].

There's no "_rg_" in the red text above. Nor is there anything that begins - or remotely begins - with the letter "z".

Am I doing something wrong? I can't imagine in what other place I should be looking. This is where I should be finding it.

Go back to the Trackplans folder. In the upper right side of the window there is a search bar, should have a little magnifying glass in it. type the building you're looking for, 1_2000_z4pt0fjwpo77jg don't put the "dot xml" and hit search. If it's correct and in that route it should show in the search results. It will also give you the file path.

Ah, I forgot to mention that I already tried this. Again, nothing. The search produced no results. Good call though.

The Coke Ovens are in the Allaboard/Massillon Assets folder under the reference you listed above.
