Turntables

I have installed a turntable on my route. Everything is good and working nicely. But, I have problem lowering the ground inside the pit. When I lower the ground inside the pit the ground outside slopes to the bottom of the pit. Is there a way to lower the ground inside the pit straight down while leaving the perimeter at original ground level. In other words a vertical cut at the pit wall.

I just set the radius to the minimum and do it section by section.

OK. pkz19, you returned my inquary. You have given a remedy to a dummy who doesn't understand what you mean. Please, how or where on the menu do I set a radius? Everything I do trying to lower the elevation to show the pit bottom comes with a square grid. Could you please describe, step by step, how you do it.

Hi railduffer,

Can you post a screen shot of the issue and maybe it will help everyone understand your issue. I have not installed any turntables but, I have worked with the terrain tools extensively. Are you saying that after you installed the turntable the surrounding terrain encroaches into the pit area? The pits on all of the turntables I looked at are part of the asset. When you leveled the surrounding terrain or snapped it up to your track it may have caused the terrain to enter the pit.

Do you need help with posting a screen shot? PM me and I'll explain.

Thank y'all for your attention to this, but now I have a new problem. I created this turntable using 2020 version. I have had trouble with my machine, so I received a new copy of Windows 10 from the builder of my machine. My computer guru, installed it yesterday. Of course I had to reinstall Rail Simulator, but It was version 2022. I then tried to delete the turntable I was telling you about. Not everything was deleted. The track outline for the table track is still there in yellow with a little button shown at the pivot point of the table that you can't see anymore. When I try to delete this yellow outline the program crashes.I looked up turntables since 2022 was installed, and the table I was using is not on the list anymore. I think it was a GX table. However there are many more tables on the list than there were on my previous version. How can I get this old table completely deleted?

Hey railduffer,
Do you have GNTX Steven's Pass ticked in your asset list. That should make the turntable reappear, then you should be able to delete it if you desire. Then we can address the terrain overflowing in the turntable pit. Looking at your picture and if that was the slope of the terrain when the turntable was installed, I think it can be corrected with the terrain tools.

TNTrainer, Thanks for your response. After getting a Windows fix, a Rail Simulator 2022 install, and copying all my old assets (2022 these were not included) to the program, I can now see the turntable. I have included a screen shot. OK, can you please show me how to lower the terrain JUST inside the turntable pit. I lowered the terrain after i had installed the table. Thanks

Question:
Which Turntable did you use?

I'll send you a video tutorial when I know that.

Thanks

Hey railduffer,
Here's a tutorial I made for you. I'm no expert but I learn by trying. I hope this helps solve your problem.

Hey railduffer,
If there's a way to make a 90° turn with the terrain, I have not found it. Other route builders may be able to speak up and say something. Judging from the underground horseshoe curve turntable image that I shared with you, if it could have been done I would say they would have done it. Good luck and let me know if I can help further.

Thanks for all of your suggestions guys. I ended up installing a gravel road around the pit. Then I could lower the pit bottom. This took a good deal of time & patience, but we got it done. Thanks again.

Hellorailduffer,
Glad you worked it out. As I said in my tutorial I made for you, putting a road around the pit is a perfectly acceptable thing to do. Lots of railroads had completely filled in tracks or even concrete pads around the pit.
I bet this project broadened your skills using the elevation arrows to set your road the right height around the tracks.

Post a picture when you have it fixed the way you want it to be

Happy detailing!
