Alco DL-109

Unread postby miata54 » Fri Jul 23, 2021 12:01 pm

I have just downloaded a sound mod by DTM for the Alco FA-1, UP GTEL's and the Alco DL-109. The 109 has significant meaning for me as this was the loco I saw daily as a kid in the 1940's as it ran the South Shore route out of South Station, Boston, under the New York-New Haven and Hartford livery. In the DTM folder is a JPG of a 109. I was not aware that a model of this loco existed for Rail Simulator. A search in the Library only returns the DTM sound mod. Could someone lead me to the DL-109 where ever it exists as I would love to add it to Railworks.

Thanks

Found it on Steam. However, this leads me to another question. My current Train Simulator edition is 2016. Haven't updated since then. Steam says that I need TS-2021 to run the 109 DLC, but it also says that I have the "Base Game". Will I have to update TS to the 2021 edition or will the 109 run on my 2016 edition?

Also, is there any reference material on what I would gain in additional Routes or DLC by upgrading to edition 2021?

Thanks

DTG made many improvements to the way the game runs since then. I have no idea what else you might get but just the smoothness and lessening of crashes make the update worthwhile imho.

All DLC should run on your 2016 edition. Buzz explained why you may want to update.
As for freebies, look at the current offering for TS, see what's included (it changes for every new version), and see if you already have it.
Even without any freebies, remember you get a new version of the game for free.

Thanks Buzz and Chacal. I'm still a bit confused as to "Updates" since I purchased TS in 2016. In viewing the Steam web pages about TS, it tells me I already have TS-2021 in my Library. When I select "Play", it opens up TS-2021 and then I can select my driving options. Evidently, I have been under the incorrect notion over the years since my purchase of TS-2016 that each new year update was something you had to pay for. Is this correct?

If I purchase the DL-109, would it just be the loco or would cars come with it? Would I only be able to use it in "Quick Drive"?

Thanks

Update:
A further and closer reading of the DLC on Steam reveals that it does come with cars. All set.

Every year around September DTG pushes a free update that changes the game's year (among other things big and small). You can choose to 'buy the new year's version but you're only really paying for a couple of routes at a cheaper price. It's not typically worth it.

As you mentioned, the DL-109 does come with a set of passenger coaches, which can be used in Quick Drive, and placed in any custom scenario you create.
