Out of Memory Error at Launch

Hello,

I am suddenly getting an out of memory error when I start up TS2020. It happens with both the 32-bit and 64-bit version. The error is attached here. It occurs at the splash screen "Updating Scenario Database". I understand this can be caused by a scenario that is corrupt etc, so I removed all scenarios I have downloaded since the program last worked successfully. I also uninstalled the new CSX route and scenario pack that I just purchased. I have restarted my computer. Still I get the error message. Any other thoughts, did I miss something?

If you have recently downloaded a workshop scenario/route from STEAM that could be the issue.
You need to unsubscribe from any scenario etc and make sure that the scenario has been removed from your PC.
TS Tools is good for that as the scenarios are coloured blue.
I have full instructions if you need them.

Thanks Buzz and Peter. I tried verifying files and it did replace some files but did not fix the issue. I had already tried unsubscribing from everything I had subscribed to since the last time it worked properly and that did not fix the issue. I am now unsubscribing from everything to see if that does the trick. Thanks for the tip on checking that scenarios have actually been removed using TStools, I'll try that once Steam is done unsubscribing from everything.

This is the foolproof way
If it is to do with workshop scenarios and/or a corrupt scenario database try this:
This is for errors that occur where TS20XX is loading, checking, verifying the scenario database on start – up.
NB: Verifying the game files won't fix a WS scenario problem.

Open Steam and highlight Train Simulator.
Click on The Workshop Tab
Click Browse then Subscribed items.
Individually unsubscribe each scenario or choose Unsubscribe all to get rid of the lot.

Just because you have unsubscribed WS scenarios via STEAM does not mean that they have been removed from your computer. Invest in the FREE TS-Tools and remove them route by route - they are colour coded - blue.

Additional method to check:
Delete all WS scenarios from your computer, navigate to \STEAM\steamapps\workshop\content\24010 and delete every file and sub-folder in that folder. DO NOT DELETE the \24010 folder itself (If you want to keep any or all scenarios then copy the contents first to a safe place before deleting the files and then reinstall once your error is fixed.

Once you have done that you need to close TS delete/rename the following files:
navigate to:
\STEAM\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Content and delete/rename the following 4 files:
SDBCache.bin;
SDBCache.bin.MD5;
RVDBCache.bin;
RVDBCache.bin.MD5;

Restart steam and TS
If not to do with WS scenarios - ignore this!

Thanks,

I went through and deleted all of the scenarios in TSTools, deleted everything in the 24010 folder, deleted the 4 cache files. Restarted Train Simulator and had the same crash. Noted that the 4 Cache files were not rebuilt. I'm thinking at this point I may just need to do a clean install?

There is something wrong with your install if those db files are not rebuilt.
A clean install may help.

Thanks guys, clean install did the trick. A bit annoying but at least with Steam there’s not a lot I have to add back in manually. Frankly I was probably overdue for a clean up since this sim has been installed for many many years and has been added to for a long time without a reinstall.
