I was making some decent progress on my route today. I've been using the Google Maps overlay all day, that is, until it quit loading. Out of the blue, just stopped loading.... So far I've restarted the game a few times and I cleared the cache, without any luck. I don't have any internet problems, either. Not that I know of anyhow.

One idea, after reading a comment from Buzz, is that I may have reached my 2500 map limit for the free version. Although there's no way I have loaded 2500 maps in the last 24 hours, I have been working steady on the route all week. Perhaps I need to take a break to get the overlay to work again...?

Does that still happen when you reduce the zoom settings ?

Apparently this is my first time ever messing with the zoom settings after you mentioned it. I have already been using the overlay reduced almost all the way in, and when I zoomed it out quite far, there still wasn't a change. I'm looking forward to using the overlay all the way zoomed out when I can get it working again, though. All this time I've been using that tiny little map...

I think we talk about two different things:

If you use more than the 'free' amount of your maps API, then you just start getting billed. It wouldn't just stop working.

I've never setup a billing account with Google. The overlay kept working for me after Google made changes.

I never set up a billing account either and, like you, it's been working fine for all this time. I hadn't used it the last 3 days so I just gave it a try and it's working for me. I never really read closely the limits they set for what would be free. I have my Google Maps API Key page in settings set up exactly like the screenshot posted by Kris120. I'm not sure exactly what the 2500 map limit mentioned by Buzz refers to - does 7 X 7 grid mean 49 maps displayed or just 1? A couple of weeks ago, over 3 days, I laid over 50 miles of Union Pacific's South Morrill sub with the overlay on the entire time - if 7 X 7 =49 then I went over 2500 in 3 days, if 7 X 7 =1 then I was way under the limit.

I have had, a handful of times in the past couple of years, the overlay stop working but never for longer than a few hours or a day at the most.

Not a helpful post, I know, but it may lean towards hitting a limit not being the issue since if I haven't hit a limit with the the amount I use it I can't imagine anyone else maxing out.

Thanks for the input, Tomcat. I checked this morning and the overlay still isn't working. I reckon I'll give it through the weekend to see if starts working again on Monday.

Well, after giving it an extended break...... still nothing!? Just the blue loading circles...

So.... what would y'all suggest I try next to try and get this issue resolved?

I did have this happen to me once before and I had to go in and get a new API key. I've had to do that two other times when I've had wierd stuff happen but it fixed it as soon as I added the new key in TS20xx.

So from my understanding, when setting up a billing account in Google, there are no charges going on my card and I shouldn't be charged because I wont be loading enough maps, correct?

You should stay well below useuage that would generate any billing.
