Too many Routes

Unread postby railduffer » Tue May 12, 2020 9:49 am

Is there a way to eliminate or not load routes that came with Rail Simulator and updates that I am not interested in? I used to have "Store Them", but it gave me trouble so I deleted the program. I tried deleting some routes, but tragically I also lost some assets. Lesson learned. With so many routes the program takes forever to load. I have nothing against our European friends, and bless Dovetail for their concept and work, but I am really not interested in the European routes. What would happen if I did not check the boxes on the Steam DLC list of the routes I did not want?
What would happen if I made a copy of Assets then deleted the routes in question and then place the copied assets back in the Railworks folder? Please any suggestions are welcome.

I unchecked all my euro routes with no problems. I don't care for them either.

I made three separate installs separate from the main Steam install, which is only the collection/backup: Europe, UK and USA, and divided the routes and assets over them. Works OK for the newer .ap routes and assets. Some older routes rely on UK or Europe assets too, so you'll need to copy those back into your USA install. RW_Tools is your friend here.

Still find the occasional scenario featuring a leading locomotive that isn't in its proper 'continent', so those scenarios need deletion too.

When Steam updates a route or asset pack one has to do some housekeeping oneself.

You don't need to keep all routes in your railway installation.
Just move them out of Railworks\Content\Routes\ to a temporary place.
With only a handful of routes TS starts up really very quick.

To _o_OOOO_oo-Kanawha : I'm doing exactly the same (3 complete installations for US,EU and UK).
I have created scripts which separate the routes and assets for this. If someone is interested, send me a PM.

Only the scenario database needs to be compiled on Railworks' start with the available routes. The fewer routes, the faster this process goes.
Only the loaded routes and their scenarios draw on the assets, so you are right, one can leave all assets in one and the same installation.

There is a slight hindrance in the metric/imperial settings, but perhaps your script can copy a settings file too, to take care of that?

Thanks all! I went into Steam DLC, unchecked the routes I didn't want and everything is better.
