Kansas City Question (Horns?)

Unread postby suzukisk » Sat Nov 23, 2019 9:24 pm

First I gotta say I like the Kansas City Topeka route. Just picked it up and did a runthrough today. I like that you can just fly down the rails with a loaded train sometimes it's nice not to have heavy grades to slow you down. My Question is do they not use the train whistle on that route? If they do then the developer forgot the first whistle post at Kansas City and every other one all the way to Topeka. I also noticed that the cars drive through the trains at all the crossings. Maybe they need the trains to Whistle. Just wonderin. !*don-know!*

From what I've heard and seen DTG did a lazy job with is. I don't own the route but I've seen in videos there are a bunch of reused assets from 10 years ago. There are also missing speed signs which makes you lose points. And yes I've seen a video that has the cars flying through the train.

The missing speed signs are (as far as I can see) at crossovers and siding entrances, engineers on the line would know these so the signs would not be needed. If you are worried about “losing points” they are easily inserted for your own use, I have done this as I complete the scenarios (I always convert scenarios to standard - points? don’t care!). The cars passing through the train is not an exclusive to DTG error. I don’t include moving non rail vehicles in my own route building to avoid it. One day I’ll work out how to do it properly until then - my drivers are so terrified of the trains they freeze!
The route is good, the scenarios work (for me), I don’t know about how accurate the scenes are, the size or shape of certain buildings what matters to me is it has interest, traffic, loads of AI and lots of scenario writer potential. Hearsay is just that —- Chinese whispers —- I’ll criticise only when I have the DLC AND it warrants it. Thank God we have a simulator and a game to play.

I like the route a lot and I am just asking the question should there be whistle post signs and do they require horns at crossings on that route?

There should be a post at every crossing. If it is a quiet zone (no horn zone) there would be a sign indicating that. It would look like a W being crossed out. I'd say blow your horn at every crossing you see.
