How do you get TS2019 to update to the new 64 bit platform? What are the pro's and con's?

Thanks,

Galen

If you have the game installed and up to date then you should be able to go into your steam library, right click on Train Simulator, and click Play TS 64-bit. You can also go into the game files and open RailWorks64.exe.

The game plays better in the 64 bit version because you don't have the memory constraints causing crashes in high density routes. However there is an issue with crashes when editing using the 64 bit version. The workaround is to edit with the 32 bit version save the changes then play in the 64 bit version. BTW if you make a shortcut on the desktop for the RailWorks64.exe file you can start the game from that.

There are still problems with 64-bit after the update? Yikes! I've been doing all my route edits in 64-bit after the update; luckily no issues... yet. Even waited a few weeks to see if any issues were reported. I've not seen any follow-up posts reporting problems after the update, so I thought everything was fixed... https://forums.dovetailgames.com/thread ... post-53473 ...is there another thread somewhere that describes any post-update problems with 64-bit? I'd certainly like to know before I keep route-building in 64-bit and screw something up. So far, I've not seen any negative reports, or experienced errors firsthand (knock wood).

The only issue I currently have w/ 64-bit, is while running in off-line mode (super paranoid about having my gaming rig always connected), I have to (prefer to) perform the following process before doing any route-building in 64-bit:

1. Start TS (off-line) using the 32-bit desktop icon (TS 64-bit doesn't give the option to run in off-line mode unless already logged into Steam in off-line mode).

2. After 32-bit is running, go to settings\tools and clear cache, restart. Note that when clearing the cache in 64-bit, the program restart defaults to 32-bit; which is why I don't mind starting the process in 32-bit to clear the cache, since I'm going to end up in 32-bit anyway after the restart.

3. After the 32-bit restart, exit the sim and start the 64-bit version by clicking the 64-bit icon which was manually installed to the desktop.

So much for "short-cuts" eh? *!lol!* Would be nice if everything would simply default to 64-bit. Does anyone even use a 32-bit OS these days? !*don-know!*

You can clear the cache outside the game by using this method found here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... =465303891
You can do this without reverting to 32 bit. This can also be done within the game in between editing sessions or between runs.
