Scratching my head over this one.

I guess this fits with this part of the forum. I have been attempting to make RWtools and 7zip, default programs for opening railworks files like .ap or proxyxml files. The problem is that when I, say, attempt to open a proxyxml file with RWtools, the file will not change to the rwtool icon, so I don't have to chose the default program is checked. I do have the, "always use this program", box checked, but nothing happens. The same occurs if I want to make 7zip the default for opening the .ap file. I have never had this issue before, and I have looked all over the internet for a solution. I am using Windows 64 bit home. And I have a separate SSD and HD; I mention that to see if that might have something to do with the issue. This problem only affects the files in TS2019 it seems.

You should be able to fix this in setting it up in windows default programs by file type. Go to default programs and look for a sub menu by file type, scroll down to .ap then look for open with and RW_Tools should be there. If not there is a way to add it to the list. Some one may have an easier way to do this by using a context menu.

I have tried that and the .ap isn't even listed as a file extension. Proxybin is, but RWtools isn't listed to open it.

What I did:
I right clicked on any proxyxml file - unticked the default option, scrolled down to MORE then - Look for another app on this PC - and then searched for RWTools.exe then highlighted it and ticked Always use this app etc and now clicking on the proxyxml file it opens with RWTools.
I couldn't get .ap files and 7-zip to work as you need to open the extract archive option in 7-zip.
Further, with .ap files using RW Tools just opened RW tools - nothing more

I tried that, but when I search for the rwtools, the option for making it the default program goes away. Incidentally, I wasn't trying open the .ap files with RWtools, I was only trying to open proxybin, or proxyxml files with it.

One of the recent-ish Windows 10 updates broke custom file type program assignments. I updated to 1809 (the latest Windows 10 iteration that launched a few days ago) and it works again.

I new that I at one time that I could set file associations. But when I looked it had changed. I am glad that it will return. Are you an early updater? Was 1809 the version where files went missing? I am currently on 1803.

I updated to 1809 and am now able to change the files. I am glad that solved the issue, since i was considering doing a reinstall, and really didn't want to go through all that nonsense. Thanks for everyone's help.
